Position: Diesel Mechanic
Department: Fleet Operations
Classification: Non-Exempt
Salary Range: NE7
Supervisor: Fleet Manager

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the inspection, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, service and repair of all vehicles at GCRC. This team member will inspect, diagnose, and repair vehicles according to the standards set by leadership and the Fleet Manager. Detailed inspection and service logs will be recorded and maintained by the Diesel Mechanic. This position is expected to contribute to practices that promote an employee oriented, high-performance culture that emphasizes involvement, efficiency, and a positive & productive working environment. Acts as a Hualapai ambassador and in the best interests of the Hualapai Tribe at all times.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Perform vehicle and equipment safety inspections utilizing DOT guidelines on all GCRC vehicles and equipment. Keep detailed records of all inspections and provide to leadership upon request.
2. Perform preventive maintenance on all vehicles and equipment in order to maximize asset life cycle and ensure safe and efficient operation.
3. Assess, diagnose, and repair all vehicles and equipment when necessary. Communicate cost and labor required to Fleet Management and leadership. Work with Fleet Management to outsource work when necessary.
4. Keep detailed records and logs of all work performed, and keep vehicle and equipment logs specific to each individual asset. Provide details to leadership upon request.
5. Communicate with team members when needed in order to keep the teams apprised of which vehicles are in operation, and which are in need of maintenance or repair.
6. Provide guests information and ensure new team members are trained regarding Hualapai history, culture, tourism offerings and Grand Canyon West. Ensure all customer interactions are prompt, accurate and courteous.
7. Ensure that all guest related issues are resolved promptly while maintaining a high degree of tactfulness and respect for the other party.
8. Contribute to a team environment and assist co workers in handling issues or difficult or unhappy guests, both internal and external.
9. Ensure that all communications are shared with team members in a timely and accurate manner, as appropriate.
10. Keep the Fleet Manager apprised of all issues and concerns.
11. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities:
1. Must be ASE certified with proper documentation.
2. Must be able to identify necessary tools and equipment needed to accomplish required tasks.
3. Must be resourceful and have excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
4. Must be dexterous and energetic, and skilled at using complex hand tools.
5. Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner and handle escalated issues or team members/guests that are not happy. Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
6. Demonstrated ability to participate in a team environment, multi-task efficiently and maintain positive working relationships. Excellent organizational skills.
7. Knowledge of Grand Canyon West locations and operations, Hualapai River Running and Hualapai history and culture.

Qualifications:
1. Valid commercial drivers license (Class B) with passenger/air brake endorsement, required.
2. ASE Certification as a diesel mechanic, required.
3. Minimum three (3) years experience as a certified diesel mechanic at an organization with a large fleet of various types of vehicles and equipment, or that performs a high volume of work on a diverse fleet of vehicles and a equipment.
4. Ability to work effectively and efficiently both as an individual and as part of a team.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
6. Experience working for a Tribal entity, preferred.
7. Preference given to Hualapai Tribal members.





Physical Demands:
1. While performing the duties of this position, the team member is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, push, pull, bend for extended periods; reach with hands and arms; talk and listen on a regular basis.

2. This position will be required to frequently work both outside and in an automotive shop / garage setting. This will include exposure to occasionally harsh weather conditions, such as extreme heat and cold, wind, rain, snow, hail, sleet and other harsh precipitations, as well as desert climates and occasional humidity.

3. The Team Member must be able to concentrate for prolonged periods.
4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
5. The Team Member must be able to communicate effectively in person or using telecommunications equipment.
6. Must have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, touch-screen display, telephone, and calculator.
7. Frequently lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.

Conditions of Employment:
1. Must be able to provide authorization to work in the United States.
2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
3. Must possess a valid drivers license with a clean driving record, and be able to obtain approval to operate a company vehicle.
4. Must be an ASE Certified Technician.
5. Must comply with the GCRC Team Member Handbook, internal policies and procedures, and all rules and regulations set within GCRC and the Tribe.

Working Conditions:
Work environment will be an indoor restaurant and office setting, with occasional assignments in outdoor environments in multiple business locations. This will involve exposure to extreme weather conditions including, but not limited to: heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow. Occasional travel (local and statewide) for meetings, assignments, and regular job tasks. Extended and irregular hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays may be needed on occasion to meet business needs. Must be able to perform under pressure and work under stressful conditions. May be exposed to the risks associated in attempting to resolve issues with irate Team Members, both current and former.
