JOB TITLE: Laboratory Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Medical Affairs
RESPONSIBLE TO: Chief Medical Officer
EDUCATION: High School Diploma
LICENSURE: Valid Phlebotomy Certification or Certified Medical Assistant
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 2 years supervisory experience in a medical laboratory
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Laboratory Coordinator is a key member of the Medical Affairs division, where the primary duty will be functioning as a lead phlebotomist and supervisor. The Lab Coordinator will work with providers to ensure the timely delivery of effective patient care.
The Lab Coordinator must wear personal protective equipment such as protective eyewear, masks; and utility gloves while performing blood draws and follow specific company and OSHA procedures when handling bodily fluids and/or hazardous materials.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Monitoring, coordination or execution of all on-site laboratory testing.
2. Training of all other assigned personnel in Park West laboratory protocol and CLIA
Waive testing standards including documentation of competencies on an annual basis for
all personnel who perform CLIA-waivered tests
3. Responsible for ordering and maintenance of all laboratory supplies and their timely
distribution to all lab locations
4. Responsible for the maintenance and proper functioning of all laboratory equipment
5. Responsible for generation of monthly statistics as requested by the Laboratory
Director.
6. Must demonstrate professional behavior, competency and good communication skills
with patients and fellow employees.
7. Follow phlebotomy procedures and regulations (as set up by OSHA) when
demonstrating venipuncture and drawing blood, i.e. not bruising or hurting, especially when working with children and infants.
8. Follow and observe the standard procedures for timely collection, processing and
transport of blood, body fluids, specimens from cytology, and bacterial, viral, fungal
specimens, etc. as required by external laboratories.
9. Competently and efficiently log patient's lab orders, follow up for pending results, and
deliver said results promptly to providers. Utilizes automated processes linked to the
center’s EHR and laboratory bidirectional interfaces for these processes when required.
10. Maintain good relations and communications with outside laboratory.
11. Maintain a clean and neat processing area as well as draw room.
12. Responsible for quality control and performance improvement as they relate to
laboratory operations; reports at least semi-annually and regularly attends monthly
Quality Assurance meetings. Attends, supervisors
meetings and General Staff meetings.
13. Maintains any required log sheets.
14. Effectively monitor all lab tech activity at the Belvedere, Plaza and Men and Family
Health Center site laboratories. This includes all laboratory refrigerator logs, specimen
logs, and processes for informing providers of abnormal results.
Other Responsibilities: Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
