JOB SUMMARY:

Investigates all aspects of referred questionable claims to the Special Investigation Unit including in-person recorded statements /interviews /EUO with policyholders and their representatives as needed, coordination of outsource service providers, field canvasses, scene investigations and other field investigative activities, investigative report writing, and questionable claim reporting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties for this position include:

• Meticulously investigates (both field and desktop) all assigned referral cases in efforts to resolve identified indicators of questionable claims or of suspected fraud.
• Gathers information via on-site inspections, recorded statements, interviews, canvasses, and other field investigation activity as needed.
• Travel for investigative fieldwork both within the investigator’s area /state and out of state is required.

• Ethically completes case assignments timely and accurately within the company’s best practices and quality expectations.
• Provides complete, detailed investigative claim notes, reports, and memorandums.
• Completes open-source intelligence investigations, background investigations, and social media reviews using approved databases and other company software and online resources.
• Identifies complex issues and seeks assistance as needed from management and other appropriate resources.
• Masters and complies with Stillwater company claim handling and SIU protocols /guidelines.
• Completes necessary referrals to proper authorities including NICB, state insurance departments, and other law enforcement agencies.
• Attends and oversees examination under oath proceedings as needed.
• Utilize in-person and initiative-taking communication methods including Teams video conferencing, telephone, email, text, and other methods.
• Utilize and manage, when appropriate, litigation resources to resolve claims.
• Recognize, control, and resolve disputes professionally.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Candidate must have 3 to 5 years of SIU field investigation experience with an insurance carrier.
• Candidate must have a fundamental understanding of Auto, Homeowner, and Business Owners insurance policies and endorsements.
• Candidate must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record, plus defined automobile insurance liability coverage.
• Candidates must have their own vehicle for work use, standard per mileage compensation will be provided.
• Candidate must have the ability to travel for field investigative work within the state of CA, and out of state most commonly to the states of OR, WA, AZ, NJ, NY, MN, NV, UT, CT, and TX.
• Candidate must possess sound business judgment, effective interpersonal and communication skills, and exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Four-year college degree in criminal justice, law, science, or a related field preferred; or equivalent law enforcement, military, or advanced work experience.
• Mastery of Microsoft Office suite of products including Excel.
• Mastery of industry programs such as TLO, Accurint, Westlaw, ISO Claim Search, PACER, etc.
• Social media investigation, data analytics, and/or trend analysis experience.
• Mastery of oral and written communication skills associated with recorded statements and report writing.
• Professional designations such as CIFI, FCLS, CFE, CPCU, etc.
• A FL or other state all lines adjuster’s license
• Law Enforcement, Fire investigation, or Law background.
• Experience with outsource investigation provider management.
• Casualty/automobile investigation experience, including body shop, medical provider, and towing involvement.
