ELL Specialist

ELL Specialist Role

At New Dawn, ELL Specialists play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and overseeing the functioning of our ELL programs. This includes collaboration with other specialists and supporting content-area teachers in developing effective instructional strategies that align with the SIOP and GRR models.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee ELL program development and ensure its seamless integration with other academic initiatives.
  • Provide targeted support during pull-out or push-in sessions using structured ELL curricula, such as Pearson’s Keystone.
  • Support content-area teachers with lesson development and instructional strategies to enhance ELL student success.
  • Foster a professional culture that emphasizes continuous improvement, coaching, mentoring, and distributed leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant teaching experience, particularly in a charter school or similar setting.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population including ELL, special education, general, and gifted students.
  • Strong lesson planning, curriculum development, and assessment skills.
  • A student-centered teaching philosophy compatible with SIOP and GRR models.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proven track record of dynamic classroom management and a strong interpersonal ability to engage students.
  • Masters degree in a related field preferred; a Bachelor's degree in a related field required.
  • NYS certification in relevant field required; Spanish language proficiency is highly preferred.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Develop daily lesson plans and instructional materials that cater to a diverse student body.
  • Employ multimedia resources and tools to provide blended learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate extensively with co-teachers and support staff to meet the comprehensive needs of all students.
  • Participate actively in professional development and contribute to the professional community at New Dawn.

Compensation:

  • Salary range: $55,000 to $85,000 per year, commensurate with skills and experience.
  • Full benefits package including healthcare, vision, dental, and 401k.

Start Date:

  • Next academic year with option to start immediately.
