ELL SUPPORT TEACHER

(PreK-3 through Grade 5)

Start Date: August 2026

Location: Washington, D.C.Model: 50/50 English-Hebrew ImmersionOur Mission:Sela was founded to dismantle educational inequity, racial segregation, and cultural isolation. We provide a space where students are celebrated as they begin their journey as global citizens. As a bilingual Hebrew-English school, we proudly serve over 280 students from Pre-K3 through 5th grade in the heart of DC.

The Role:

 

The English Language Learner Support Teacher at Sela PCS provides instruction to Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade students who require English-language support. The goal of this position is to guide English Language Learners toward gaining proficiency in all dimensions of language proficiency and math. This position reports to the Director of Special Education.

 

The teacher will be trained in administrative duties along with curriculum implementation by the Director of Special Education and participate in all professional development opportunities offered at the school.

 

The ideal candidate has experience reflecting knowledge and expertise teaching in an elementary school ELL program; exhibits superior organizational and communication skills (verbal and writing); is compassionate; is willing to collaborate; and is knowledgeable about recent research in pedagogy in the field of second language acquisition and ELL education. Additionally, the candidate should possess sensitivity to the developmental stages and well-being of children and have a willingness to be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the school setting. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide ELL push in and/or pull out instruction to students either individually or in small groups in both literacy and math;
  • Administer required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for 

determining placement for students in grades PreK 3 through 5th, and ongoing monitoring of student progress;

  • Maintain a database of ELL and ELL-eligible students;
  • Developing language acquisition support plans (ELL plans) with individual goals for all ELL students;
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement plans;
  • Completing ELL Accommodations Forms and ELL Progress Reports for elementary school students;
  • Work with Director of Special Education and families of ELL students to coordinate translation services when needed;
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction;
  • Collaborate with Special Education teachers to support differentiated instruction;
  • Collaborate with the Special Education Director to develop appropriate curriculum to help ELL students acquire the English language;
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different 

aptitudes and interests of students, including whole group (co-teaching)/ small-group or individual learning;

  • Assist in gathering and reporting data for reporting requirements and other required reports (to the State, Charter School Board, Dept of Education, census, grant applications, annual report, etc.);
  • Establish and maintain communication with parents of students in the program;
  •  Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned;
  • Attend IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or compliance with federal and/or state law;
  • Attend and participate in established traditional school-sponsored activities (i.e, back-to school night, open house, and other activities customarily attended by classroom teachers and/or faculty members), which may be outside of regular school hours;
  • Other duties as assigned.
