Job Title: Hospice Nurse
Location: [Facility Name], Rapid City, SD
Minimum Experience Required: 1.5 years of experience (Monument requirement)
Accepting First-time Travelers: Yes, with hospice experience
Traveler Location Requirement: Must live > 100 miles away from the facility
Permanent Staff Return: Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler

Patient Types:
Terminal (hospice patients) come in for either respite, GIP (general inpatient), or routine level of care

Patient Ratios:

• 12-bed hospice house
• 1 nurse per 6 patients if all beds full
• Once census down to 8 patients, one nurse and one aide

Required Certifications:

• RN: BLS
• CNA: BLS

Required Education:

• RN: Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
• CNA: Certified Nursing Aide

Skills Required:

• RN: Hospice philosophy, symptom management, knowledge of terminal diagnosis criteria, cadd pump, wound care, medication management, IV administration
• CNA: Personal care, ADL’s, positioning, lifting, feeding, toileting, oral care

Support on the Unit:

• CNA Ratio: Day shift - 2 aides for 12 patients, Evening - 2 aides, Nights - 1 aide
• Charge Nurse: Yes
• Phlebotomy: Nurses provide if needed
• IV/VAT Team: Nurse performs
• Resource Nurse: Available during day shift
