To effectively prevent and treat child abuse, Home Start addresses the conditions that can contribute to risky or abusive situations – poverty, unsafe neighborhoods, lack of affordable housing, and unemployment – while concurrently addressing individual self-sufficiency and emotional needs.
Job Summary: The Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions of the agency.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist CFO in daily operations of the Fiscal Department to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing and payroll.
- Responsible for timely submission of monthly bills to funding agencies and reviewing and approving bills prepared by other Fiscal Dept. members prior to submission.
- Performs monthly bank reconciliation for cash accounts and balance sheet account reconciliation.
- Maintains accurate cash balance information and reviews.
- Assist CFO in reviews invoices and check requests for accuracy of general ledger and grant coding.
- Works with CFO to establishes and monitor departmental internal controls.
- Ensures compliance with all contracts/grants.
- Maintains computerized accounting system and integrity of accounting data.
- Maintains appropriate data back up.
- Along with CFO, represents agency with funding and contracting organizations and subcontractors.
- Assists with budget preparation as required.
- Assists CFO with annual independent audit.
- Satisfies state/federal/county reporting requirements
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: BA/BS or equivalent and a minimum of four years experience in non-profit accounting and supervision. Experience managing government contracts and issuing claims for reimbursement and other funder invoices.
- Abilities: Management and leadership skills with ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure with multiple deadlines and attention to detail. Ability to communicate clearly to agency staff and outside contacts.
- Skills: Strong computer skills in the use of accounting software package and ADP. MIP Fund Accounting Software experience preferred. Must be able to use computer, printer, 10-key adding machine and other office equipment. Strong analytical skills are required.
- Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Physical Demands:
- Sitting for long periods of time at a desk while typing and viewing a computer screen.
- Using hands to operate keyboard and other office equipment.
- Occasional standing and walking and lifting up to 10 pounds.
- Occasional driving to meetings with vendors and funders in the community.
Work Environment:
The noise level fluctuates from quiet to somewhat noisy depending on how many employees are in the office at any one time.
