Responsibilities

  • Manage a rotating staff of 8-10 fiber placement employees, which includes mentoring and development of assigned fiber optic technical personnel.
  • Provide overall technical support, training and growth of the fiber optic placement services team.
  • The Fiber Technician Supervisor will be onsite at all times working directly hands-on with the Fiber Placement Team.
  • Maintain a strong field presence, production and product delivery focus.
  • Maintain regular contact with co-workers and customers.
  • Work with area management and personnel to meet specific customer needs and ensure proper resources are allocated to meet time and budget requirements.
  • Supervise the following:
    • Fiber Placement and Installation crews
    • Crews’ preparedness (trucks, trailers, equipment, tools, and materials)
    • Work with construction teams and on-site inspectors/technicians.
    • Track and Document Daily progress production reporting for all projects and relay this information to Fiber Manager and Coordinator.
    • Documentation and close out packages (within 12 hours of completion)
    • Monitor and maintain quality assurance standards to include field observation and inspection to ensure company and customer standards
    • Perform and document regular site “tailgate” meetings.
    • Establish action to deal with delays due to weather, emergencies, or logistics.
    • Monitor and document employee PPE and safe “set up”.
    • Monitor and promote company technical services training and development.
      • Participate in internal training resources and “Learning Line” (LMS) to ensure the most efficient and effective employee advancement.
      • Provide “hands on” role in company mentorship program.
      • Review, reward, and record within an “employee technician level” structure.
      • Monitor, assign and promote care and maintenance of fiber optic tools and test equipment.

Qualifications

  • Experience with fiber construction and/or fiber placement is required, along with ability to train new hires in the placement process
  • Experience supervising and managing sub-contractors
  • Must be at least 21, and have a valid driver’s license with Class A CDL
  • Ability to direct others and working with a team
  • Diligent on ability to show up for work daily and on time
  • Experienced with basic computer functions, basic Internet, and the ability to learn new programs especially Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams,
  • Able to use independent judgment and perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to take and pass OSHA-10 Certification within 90 days of beginning work
  • Must be able to take and pass, and continue to pass a DOT Physical, motor vehicle record check, drug screen and background check. (THC is a “fail” on our drug test)
  • Regular regional travel required, including overnights.
  • High school diploma or the equivalent

Work Environment

  • Repeated and frequent ability to lift, from floor to above head 25 lbs. continuously.
  • Ability to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach and utilize both hands and feet in an aerial and underground capacity.
  • Environmental Conditions exposure is heat, cold, dust, wet, vibration and very loud noise.
  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods, stand, bend, walk, communicate via telephone, computer and/or face-to-face contact, vision to monitor, and use basic office equipment such as a personal computer, copier, and fax machines regularly during work.
  • Work is performed in and out of an office environment.
