Production Manager

Title: Production Manager Department: NEW Bakery
Status: Full Time, Exempt
Standard Hours: Mon-Fri 8:00PM-5:30PM
Flexibility of hours mandatory to support shifts, as Operating hours are 4AM-Midnight
Reports to: Director of Manufacturing Effective Date: April 2022
Summary of Position:
Position is responsible for the high-level success of the BAKERY departments. Oversees entire Bakery Team. Works with the Supervisor to ensure the processes, material and equipment are optimal.
Essential Job Duties:
- Planning, directing, and coordinating the manufacturing of products in compliance with company goals and objectives.
- Analyzing delivery and inventory issues and providing solutions.
- Establishing and controlling conditions of production in order to satisfy customer and quality specifications.
- Organizing and directing workflow for satisfying production requirement in a cost-efficient manner.
- Investigation and analyzing new processes, where feasible.
- Developing and motivating the cost-effective alternatives and improvements to production process.
- Maintaining team member safety and morale by creating safe working and efficient working environment.
- Manage activities to improve team member retention
- Maintaining proper employment levels through selecting, interviewing, and training of personnel.
- Supervising entire operation of production under the guidance of Senior Plant Manager.
- Maximizing the efficiency of production lines and ensuring the effective employment utilization
- A leader who establishes a culture of quality and excellence through creating systems, training staff, and managing personnel.
- Responsible for people development and process execution.
- Ability to plan, forecast and schedule teams to execute production in a day to day shift environment.
- Reviews financial information such as sales/costs and monitors budget to ensure efficient operation and spending within the specified budget; works with Senior Leader to correct any deviations from the budget;
- Maintains a clean and sanitary bakery operation according to GMPs and Allergens’ policies;
- Bakery Manager provides leadership and side by side execution for production, operations and performance of bakery (Modeling best practices);
- Oversee Bakery inventory management, and equipment maintenance;
- Team development and hiring. Ability to lead people and get results through others;
- Effective organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and understand and effectively communicate;
- Documents, investigates, elevates and resolves employee and guest incidents
- Able to operate material handling equipment including (electric pallet jacks or manual hand jacks);
- Understand all safety rules and procedures and follow them at all times;
- Perform JD Edwards functions (work order and inventory related tasks);
- Assist in setting up the equipment needed to run batches;
- Monitor the quality of all raw materials used with specific attention to color; consistency, aroma, texture, etc. notify Operations Manager of any sub-standard products;
- Direct all department employees to their daily job assignment;
- Fill out all related paperwork completely;
- Make sure that all raw materials needed for that day are available. If needed, use JDE system to look up raw materials that you may need and inform inventory control;
- Assist anyone that may have questions on quality, running machines, batch making, etc.;
- Work with scheduler in arranging efficient production schedule and daily work orders. Communicate daily production schedule status to the scheduler.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., frequent bending, lifting, and twisting for extended periods of time.
- Ability to stand and walk on concrete floor for prolonged periods
- Wear proper personal protective equipment when necessary (hair net, beard net, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)
Preferred Skills
- 7-10 years management experience, 4+ at a manager’s level within manufacturing;
- Trained in Good Manufacturing Practices, basic allergen handling, wash down procedures, food defense and HACCP.
- Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules.
