Responsible for:
- operating heavy duty wrecker truck (either single or tandem axle);
- righting overturned vehicles which may require the use of moveable or non-moveable booms and/or power winches
- rigging various vehicles to be righted or towed using accepted procedures
- using booms to lift vehicles for towing
- towing vehicles to designated locations
- positioning vehicles in work area for repair
- clearing accidents involving heavy duty vehicles from streets and highways
- observing instruments while the vehicle is in operation and makes routine corrective action if malfunction is indicated
- reporting defects in the vehicle operated, accidents, traffic violations or damage to the vehicle by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Operates heavy wrecker trucks, safely and efficiently, on or off the highway, in traffic and under adverse climatic conditions.
- Maintains knowledge of vehicular rigging.
- Maintains ability to manually release the emergency brakes on a heavy duty wrecker.
- Operates a standard shift heavy duty transmission.
- Maintains knowledge of the component parts and operating principles of heavy duty wreckers.
- Maintains knowledge of the functions, capabilities and operations of heavy duty wreckers.
- Maintains knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- Understands and carries out written and oral instructions.
- Performs heavy manual labor for prolonged periods under adverse climatic conditions.
- Maintains a set of basic hand tools.
- Reports any discrepancies on pre-inspection checklist to Heavy Duty Division Manager, Fleet Manager or Fleet Mechanic.
- Completes a pre-inspection checklist to assigned vehicle prior to operation.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 25 years of age or older
- Possess a valid Arizona driver’s license & Class A CDL with minimal driving infractions/incidents.
- Successfully complete drug screening, MVR, criminal background check, and DOT health screenings (pre-employment and ongoing).
- Experience using electronic devices to update service calls,
- Customer service experience including ability to effectively communicate and understand the need for meeting/exceeding customer expectations.
- Ability to lift materials weighing up to fifty (50) pounds
- Commercial driving or prior towing experience
- Must be available weekends
- Must have reliable transportation
