DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ASCPL is hiring a Mobile Services Librarian to support our Mission Statement to provide resources for learning and leisure, information services, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages that support, improve, and enrich individual, family, and community life. The Mobile Services Librarian works 37.5 hours and:

• Advises and helps customers with the selection, organization, and interpretation of Library materials.
• Prepares and distributes Library materials to customers via mail.
• Performs a full range of collection maintenance duties, and collaborates with Collection Development employees regarding customer and community trends and interests.
• Researches and answers customer questions in-person, by telephone, and by email.
• Plans and conducts programs for Library customers.
• Provides services to special populations and to all age groups.
• Maintains budgets for programs and supplies.
• Maintains the necessary supplies for mailing materials to Library customers.
• Trains support staff, and oversees the work of support staff employees in the Mobile Services Manager’s absence.
• Develops and maintains community engagement relationships.
• Provides programming and establishes and maintains contacts with appropriate community organizations.
• Drives all Mobile Services vehicles and operates vehicle equipment.
• Ensures the safety of Library vehicle passengers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Required: A Master of Library and Information Science degree*. Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science. Knowledge of customer interests related to Library materials, programs, and services. Knowledge of the principles of intellectual freedom as they apply to public libraries. Skill in customer service and community outreach to diverse populations. Ability to plan and conduct programs for Library customers. Ability to handle delivery bags and push book trucks loaded with materials. Ability to troubleshoot Library vehicle software and hardware independently. Ability to use a computer and job-related software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job. Ability to work inside Mobile Services vehicles (outside of standard office settings and facilities) and perform duties in all weather conditions. Ability to exert moderate physical effort required, including considerable standing and walking. Ability to lift moderate to heavy objects (more than 25 pounds) and carry them short distances (50 feet or less) and push Library materials carts up to 200 pounds. Ability to wear steel-toed shoes and other necessary personal productive equipment (PPE). Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening, criminal background check, and education verification.

Preferred: 2 to 5 or more years of relevant experience. Ohio Public Librarian Certification.

*Applicants within 7 credit hours or less toward completion of an M.L.I.S. degree will also be considered under certain conditions. Individuals hired under these conditions will begin as a Public Service Assistant lll, Grade 10, Step 1, ($21.13/hour), and upon confirmation of completion of the M.L.I.S. degree will be moved to Librarian, Grade 11, Step 1, ($21.72/hour).
