SESLOC Federal Credit Union is looking for a Collections Clerk to provide clerical support to the Collections Department, for contacting members regarding overdrawn and delinquent accounts, and for maintaining accurate account records. Assist collections staff in optimizing collections on accounts while balancing the goodwill of members with the overall business interests of the credit union.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the department including answering phones, preparing, and processing correspondence, data entry, report generation, account research and document retention.
  • Respond to telephone calls regarding payment notices and delinquent accounts.
  • Organize and mail collection notices, ensuring that correspondence are complete and correct at date of mailing.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting insurance claims and refunds, repo notices and bankruptcy proof of claims.
  • Cross-service and educate members by offering appropriate products and services to satisfy member needs and to meet established business goals and strategies.
  • Assist in preparing accounts for charge off and support the process of charging off accounts.
  • Research accounts as needed to determine potential reasons for delinquent or overdrawn status including coordinating with department and credit union staff.
  • Communicate with members, co-borrower and/or their authorized agents by telephone, mail, and electronic media regarding delinquent and overdrawn accounts and to establish arrangement for account resolution.
  • Exchange information with members ensuring understanding and clarity for both parties. Document notes in a clear and concise manner within the collection system and files.
  • Maintain effective collection procedures and accurate records on delinquent, potentially delinquent and overdrawn accounts.
  • Responsible for cross-reference detail regarding charge off loan accounts; loan files, signature cards, journal vouchers, share transfers.
  • Shares the responsibility in meeting the departmental and credit union goals set to establish lower delinquency ratio.
  • Process accurate MBP/GAP refunds, debt protection and claims and follow up with members and third parties for timely resolution.
  • Respond to credit disputes using the E-Oscar system.
  • Accurately report loan information to credit reporting agencies.
  • Support department staff by gathering documentation on loan extension and workout requests.
  • Process all requests submitted through the Collections electronic inbox.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required, assuring organizational success.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED and one to three years' similar or related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, including time spent in preparatory positions. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills on the phone and/or in person. Credit Union or financial institution experience preferred.
