Job Description

PLC Construction, Inc. (PLC) seeks a Civil-Structural Engineer in our Engineering Services Division at PLC. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in structural engineering & design with experience in the design of steel structures and foundations. The candidate should be a highly motivated individual and well-versed engineer with the desire to expand their abilities and be exposed to a wide range of work in the Consulting Engineer field.

  • Prepare engineering studies and schematic design for new systems and analyze operation of existing systems.
  • Checks all technical calculations and drawings for accuracy.
  • Maintains communications between other engineers and disciplines to ensure schedule and budget completion.
  • Responsible for the generation of calculations and design drawings.

This position is on-site at our headquarters in Liberty, TX. It is an easy commute from North/NE Houston via the new 99 Grand Parkway. Our ideal candidate will work with internal and external resources within our Renewables Project team to take a project from early concept to final installation. The Engineer will ensure that the structural design approach encompasses constructability, safety, and lowest installed cost at the earliest phases of projects to ensure on-time and on-budget project delivery. This position will work independently and be expected to manage the structural process on multiple projects of various sizes.


Civil/Structural Engineer Position Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development of ECNs for design changes.
  • Ensure that all work produced complies with company, industry, and client quality requirements, understanding at least the principles of Quality Assurance and Health & Safety best practices.
  • Duties include site walkdown, gathering of relevant information, structural analysis and design, communication with all project team members and other stakeholders.
  • Clearly conveys messages and ideas.
  • Works collaboratively across disciplines and involves others in solving problems.
  • Initiates meetings with own team, other disciplines, or internal customers for clarity on work.
  • Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives.
  • Follows through on commitments made to internal and external customers.
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks concurrently.
  • Utilizes industry and company standards to design and engineer effectively and solves problems using well established scientific principles.
  • Analysis and design of foundations for support structures.
  • Works with and directs designers to develop engineering and design documents as needed.
  • Works and effectively communicates with a project manager, engineers, and designers of differing disciplines to execute assigned projects.
  • Prepare and review drawings detailing the systems designed.
  • Ability to deliver projects as allocated by Structural Practice Lead without supervision.
  • Ensures the accuracy of design information whether done by internal personnel or by outside contractors prior to being issued for construction.
  • Travels to project sites as needed to support project scope development, construction, testing, and start up.
  • Familiar with various analysis methods including hand calculations and computer modeling using structural analysis software.
  • Knowledge of engineering design principles and practices as spelled out in the codes and standards.

Qualifications

  • Foundation Design – Spread Footing, MAT Foundations, Drilled Piers
  • Concrete Design – Anchorage to Concrete and knowledge of ACI 318
  • Facility Civil Design and Industrial Site Planning – Site Grading Design, Stormwater Planning, and Access Roadways
  • Structural Steel Design – Buildings, Equipment Supports, Custom Platforms, seismic design and lateral systems.
  • Steel Connection Design & Detailing
  • Working knowledge of current versions of international building code, ASCE 7 and building practices in the United States.
  • Experience in natural gas plant structural design in the United States.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineering registration is required and the ability to get licensed in other states. (NCEES Record is a plus)
  • Minimum of 4-8 years’ experience in civil/structural design and calculations for steel and reinforced concrete using manual and computer methods.
  • Works collaboratively across departments and involves others in solving problems. Initiates meetings within own team, other disciplines, or internal customers for clarity on work.
  • Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives.
  • Ability to work in and review work in a 3D CAD software platform (e.g. Navisworks)
  • Able to obtain field information and site investigation at operating plant or construction site.
  • Generate calculations for civil/structural projects.
  • Proficiency in Risa 3D or STAAD Pro, MathCAD, and MS Office Suite is required.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and 3-D drawing is a plus.
  • Follow through on commitments, internal and external to our customers.
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities with set expectations and meet deadlines.
  • Able to specify actions to take when standards or contract requirements are not met.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • 10-hour shift M-TH or 8-hour shift M-F
  • Day shift

License/Certification

  • Professional Engineer (Preferred)

Willingness to travel
