We are on the hunt for a sharp and innovative Senior Accounting Manager. The Senior Accounting Manager reports to the Controller and will be responsible for producing timely and accurate financials for operating property entities. The Senior Accounting Manager manages two staff accountants and maintains important strategic relationships with the asset management and property management groups. They are also a key person in the company’s relationships with its external equity partners and lenders.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Direct and supervise the accounting for Multifamily and Commercial operating properties including rents, tenant improvement/allowance, lease commissions, fixed assets, accounts payable, receivables, and general ledger accounting to ensure adherence with GAAP, internal controls and company policies and procedures. To include oversight of 3rd Party managed operating properties.
- Manage operating property cash flow distributions and funding/capital calls to provide advance notice and timely distribution.
- Publishing timely and accurate month end balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statements in accordance with our contractual agreements (lender/partner/owner) for each of our operating properties.
- Oversight of the annual operating property budget process.
- Annual audit coordination and financial statement preparation for operating property audits, if applicable.
- Providing tax return support for operating properties including annual fixed asset and depreciation support schedules.
- Providing accounting support for operating property acquisitions/dispositions by reviewing financial information; assisting in closings and obtaining supplementary information for preparing financial statements. Including managing/recording technical accounting aspects of acquisitions and dispositions.
- Answering property accounting and financial questions on a regular and ad hoc basis.
- Developing/maintaining property accounting policies and procedures.
- Remaining current on industry best practices by participating in networking and industry focused educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Developing property accountants through routine coaching and semi-annual performance reviews.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated collaborative team player with the ability to foster good working relationships across the organization as well as with our external partners. The person must possess an excellent work ethic with the ability to organize and prioritize competing requests. They must be deadline oriented and able to motivate team members to collectively meet the many deadlines facing the department on a monthly basis. Specific requirements for this role include:
- An undergraduate degree in accounting. MSA, CPA preferred, but not required.
- 5+ years of experience in commercial real estate accounting or public accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
- Experience with MRI software preferred, but not required.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
