Mechanic/Shop Apprentice

Baldwin Paving Co., Inc. is excited to announce the launch of our Shop Apprentice program!  This is a paid apprenticeship program where the basics of automotive, truck, and small motor vehicle maintenance and repair will be taught and learned.  This will be an intensive one-year program with full mentorship from a seasoned Baldwin mechanic.

In this program, a Shop Apprentice will be on a 12-month program where, at the end of the program, the Apprentice should be rated as a C Class Mechanic, and will further develop their skills here at Baldwin to grow and learn more in their career.

The Shop Apprentice Program’s starting hourly wage is $15/hour.

We have set three milestones to accomplish in this program:

Milestone 1 (after 90 days):

• The Shop Apprentice should successfully demonstrate and complete oil and fluid changes. Once complete, a pay raise to $16/hour will be given.

Milestone 2 (after 6 months):

• The Shop Apprentice should be able to successfully demonstrate and complete brake replacements and overall diagnostics. Once complete, a pay raise to $17/hour will be given.

Milestone 3 (after 1 year):

• The Shop Apprentice should be able to successfully demonstrate total diagnostics and repair work on automobiles, trucks, and other small motor vehicles. Once complete, a pay raise to $20/hour will be given, and the apprentice will be classified as a C Class Mechanic.

This is a full-time paid position in our Marietta, GA corporate office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions.
• Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and occasional working in cramped and awkward positions.
• Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather extreme heat and cold, high/ low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.

This apprenticeship program operates in a busy shop/garage setting. The role routinely uses standard shop equipment such as tools, lifts, compressors, jacks, jack stands, oil drain and oil caddies, battery chargers and jumpers, engine hoists, brake lathes, presses, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by any applicant. 

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Some weekend hours are available as well.

No travel is expected for this position.
