Job Description

The Staenberg-Loup Jewish Community Center is seeking ceramics instructors to teach both day and evening classes. Under the direction of the Ceramic Studio Manager, Instructors perform a variety of duties related to coordinating and teaching ceramics for youth (age 6+) and adults. Instructors must be able to teach hand-building and pottery wheel throwing techniques.

This is an on-call position which will work no more than 25 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. Must be able to work evenings and weekends. In addition to class time instructors receive additional paid hours for planning, set-up, and break down time.

Role and Responsibilities

Create, plan, implement, and instruct pottery classes for the JCC Denver Community.

Expertise in hand-building, wheel throwing, surface design, glazing, and clay lifecycle.

Firing student pottery/loading and unloading kilns.

Create supply lists for classes.

Setup before, and breakdown/cleanup after each class.

Keep ceramics studio clean and organized.

Respond to class-specific inquiries from participants and community members.

Provide instruction through varied demonstration processes.

Actively support student success through guidance, advising and assisting individual students as needed.

Required to have availability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Collect and report feedback to the Mizel Arts and Culture Directors for future programming improvement

Other duties as assigned including teaching art classes through various mediums.

 

Other Duties/Responsibilities Required

Adheres to JCC Policy and Procedures.

Acts as a brand ambassador within and outside the JCC.

Performs duties as workload necessitates.

Uses internal platforms and systems required to execute job duties.

Maintains a positive and respectful attitude.

Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and the ability to prioritize workload.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

Associate degree or higher in fine arts or a related field.

Expertise in pottery and ceramics

Expertise in using a kiln.

Experience working with all age groups and diverse communities.

Prior experience planning, managing, or coordinating art programs.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Superior oral and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects with ease, while striving for accuracy and excellence in all areas.

Ability to track, analyze, and adjust programs as necessary.

Current CPR/First Aid Certification

 

Physical/Mental Requirements (ADA Compliance)

Mental requirements include, but are not limited to, the ability to concentrate, take initiative, cope with stress, adapt to and stay alert in a business environment

In order to perform the essential duties of the job, the employee must be able to speak, hear, see and walk more than 2 miles each day.

Standing and sitting on the floor.

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
