Job Description
Geotemps, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for an exploration project in the Seward Peninsula of Alaska. The Heavy Equipment Operator is crucial for the execution of construction and drilling projects, responsible for operating heavy machinery such as bulldozers, backhoes, graders, and other earthmoving equipment. This role involves preparing sites for drilling, constructing access roads, and ensuring all operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
This is a rotation schedule of 30 days on 15 days off. Transportation to site will be provided. This is a remote camp position, where housing and food will be covered for employees during their working rotation.
Responsibilities:
Equipment Operation: Safely and effectively operate heavy machinery, including but not limited to bulldozers, backhoes, graders, and excavators, for the construction of access roads, site preparation, and other earthmoving tasks.
Site Preparation and Maintenance: Prepare sites for drilling operations, including clearing, grading, and excavating land as per project specifications. Maintain access roads and drill sites to ensure operational efficiency.
Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all workplace safety guidelines and operational procedures. Inspect equipment before and after use to ensure it is in safe working order and complies with environmental regulations.
Coordination and Communication: Work closely with the Drilling Operations Supervisor and project team to understand project requirements, timelines, and specific tasks. Communicate effectively with team members to ensure coordinated efforts on-site.
Problem-Solving: Identify and troubleshoot issues with equipment or project execution, proposing practical solutions to maintain project timelines and safety standards.
Maintenance and Reporting: Perform basic maintenance and repairs on equipment, reporting any major issues or malfunctions to the supervisor. Keep accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance activities.
Efficiency and Productivity: Optimize the use of equipment and techniques to maximize productivity and minimize project delays or resource wastage.
Training and Development: Participate in training and safety briefings to stay updated on best practices in equipment operation and safety protocols.
Skills & Qualifications:
  1. Proven experience in operating heavy machinery relevant to civil construction and drilling operations. Prior work in construction, mining, or related fields is highly desirable. Additional training or certification in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
  2. Proficiency in operating various types of heavy equipment; strong understanding of construction and site preparation principles; keen attention to safety and compliance standards; good physical condition and hand-eye coordination.
  3. Strong work ethic and reliability; excellent communication skills; ability to work effectively in a team and independently; problem-solving capabilities; willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments.

  2. High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  3. Must have a current Driver’s License.
Environmental & Physical Requirements:
  1. Ability to work a 12-hour shift.
  2. Ability to lift and carry 55lbs regularly.
  3. Ability to work in temperatures that range from extreme lows with the potential of inclement weather including snow, rain or high winds.
  4. Ability to constantly walk, push, pull, stand, sit, squat, crawl, kneel, or reach for extended periods of time on muddy, dusty, or uneven ground.
  5. Ability to wear and possess Personal Protective Equipment that includes a reflective vest, steel-toed or safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses or goggles, and hearing protection.
