CorePath Laboratories has an opening for an Associate Clinical Cytogenetics/Fish Laboratory Scientist. Located in the beautiful Hill Country with proximity to the Rim shopping area and IH-10, you will work with an amazing team of dedicated scientists and lab personnel.
An associate clinical Cytogenetics/FISH laboratory scientist at this level performs laboratory procedures under supervision of clinical laboratory scientist and Supervisor. Testing procedures are performed on a variety of biological specimens using manual or automated techniques and require a broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with technical supervision. The work performed will be in the cytogenetics and FISH sections. The position includes requirements to monitor quality control systems and measures.
The hours for the position are Tuesday-Saturday, 9 AM-6 PM. Note that Saturday hours are required for this position.
Education and training requirements:
The ideal candidate will have an BS in biological science or related science and be qualified under CLIA guidelines for high complexity testing under supervision.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Knowledge of professional medical technology/clinical laboratory science principles, practices, and concepts
-Knowledge of laboratory quality control procedures and principles of performance improvement.
-Knowledge of laboratory equipment and ability to maintain.
-Ability to communicate, consult, and interact with other members of the team
-Performs a broad range of laboratory procedures including all testing and tasks involved in the clinical Cytogenetics/FISH laboratory.
-Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens.
-Maintains and documents the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment.
-Performs and documents quality control activities.
-Adheres to practices and regulations governing biosafety and biosecurity in the workplace.
-Identifies discrepancies, solves problems, and presents solutions.
-Incorporates principles of educational methodology in the instruction and training of new employees and students and in the laboratory’s in-service/continuing education program.
-Communicates effectively and courteously while working as a healthcare team member. Organizes work and sets priorities to meet deadlines.
The associate technologist works directly under the CorePath clinical laboratory scientist or supervisor, who outlines assignment parameters, deadlines, and priorities and provides advice on how to proceed when unusual problems are encountered.
The associate technologist plans and carries out the procedures necessary to complete the work assignment and handles problems and corrects errors in accordance with established protocols or accepted laboratory practices.
The supervisor or technologist reviews the work reports for the technical soundness and conformity to policy and established requirements.
