QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred. A valid State of Michigan Teaching certificate is required with an English as a Second Language or Bilingual endorsement.
  • Experience: A minimum of two (2) years work experience with English Learners (EL) preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic and behavioral strategies for struggling students
  • Demonstrated ability to track and analyze student data
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons and activities based on assessment, school objectives, and
    Ability to read, write, understand, and speak Spanish and English fluently and, at an academic
    level
  • Submit to a criminal background check and be found without a record.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Principal or designee, The ESOL Program Teacher is responsible for
English Learners (EL) in collaboration with local district and ESOL Program staff. The ESOL Program
teacher provides direct, targeted English Development instructional services to K-8 EL in small groups or
with individual students to help increase their overall achievement. The ESOL Program Teacher leads
and models instructional practices with EL Facilitators to provide feedback and increase students quality
of English Development and access to content.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The English Language (EL) teacher/consultant will provide direct instruction to students identified as
English Learners in a K-12 setting. The teacher will consult and collaborate with K-12 teachers regarding
best practices to improve English language proficiency and maximize their success, socially and
academically. This individual will have roles in developing and presenting professional development and
administering state EL assessments.

  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction that helps identified students make progress in their
  • English language proficiency (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) meeting state and federal
    standards.
  • Develop and deliver instruction that centers on language objectives and compliments general
    education.
  • Competently coordinate and provide WIDA screener and annual WIDA assessment.
  • Analyze and use data to inform instruction (WIDA and M-STEP) and collaborate with general
    education.
  • Consult with teachers regarding the use of grading rubrics and instructional best practices.
  • Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or tiered instruction to meet the needs
    of individual students.
  • Implement language instructional programs and prepare lessons that reflect accommodations
    for differences in students abilities and learning styles.
  • Requires solid pedagogy in educational planning, instructional delivery, classroom management,
    and assessment.
  • Maintain and keep accurate Student Accountability Spreadsheets and evidence of growth and
    progress.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress, and community resources and send parent
    notification letters.
  • Lead relevant professional learning for teachers and paraprofessionals as needed.
  • Research, evaluate, and prepare recommendations on curricula, instructional methods,
    assessments, technology, and materials for ELs that include native language.
  • Support the development of performance assessments and grading standards at all grade levels.
Create common tools and resources that demonstrate effective literacy practices for ELs in both
the native language and English.
