The Kitchen Helper will be responsible for assisting and implementing all activities involved with the kitchen and food preparation. The incumbent will be a representative of the YMCA who accepts and demonstrates our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in food preparation and serving.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist in the preparation of all meals in accordance with the policies of the Food Program through the Department of Human Services and Department of Health.
  2. Assist in preparing and serving proportions of food suitable for the size and age of the children in care in accordance with the CCFP regulations.
  3. Assist with inventory of all equipment and food monthly. Insure that all foods are stored in an adequate manner and that replacement of damaged materials is timely.
  4. Assist in maintaining the kitchen area in accordance with the DHS regulations and health Department codes, as well as in a neat and orderly manner.
  5. Assist in the preparation for special YMCA functions such as Program and Board meetings, Membership events, the Summer Food Program, and any other related functions as requested.
  6. Assume the responsibilities of the Child Care Cook in their absence.
  7. Maintain all equipment and storage areas and adhere to program standards in regards to equipment, storage, safety and cleanliness.
  8. Assist in filling all food orders for off-site Child Care Centers and Summer Camp Programs; assist Child Care staff in preparing for lesson plans involving food items from the kitchen.
  9. Attend and participate in center wide activities, staff meetings and trainings.
  10. Maintain ongoing DHS qualifications required for working in Child Care.
  11. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Work schedule will include daytime, evening and weekend hours.

ALL POSITIONS REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING CLEARANCES FOR EMPLOYMENT PRIOR TO THE DATE OF HIRE. CLEARANCES ARE ACCEPTED WITHIN 2 YEARS OF THE HIRE DATE.
