PURPOSE

This senior executive position is accountable for and provides strategic and operational direction, oversight, and executive leadership to Fund staff in the Aurora Plan Units (Aurora) in pursuit of the Fund’s mission by developing and implementing strategic priorities and goals, maximizing operational efficiencies, protecting the interests of Fund Participants, and safeguarding the assets of the Fund. The President serves on the UNITE HERE HEALTH Executive Leadership Team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Works with the CEO and Board of Trustees to:
    1. develop strategy and set goals for Aurora
    2. Set vision, define strategic and operational goals
  • Provides executive leadership to Aurora and the functional areas and departments in Healthcare Delivery, Clinical Affairs, Information Technology, and Operations by directing and coordinating activities consistent with established strategic objectives
  • Develops appropriate performance standards, metrics, and reporting tools to monitor the Aurora business and operational performance
  • Provides executive leadership in evaluating benefit changes and programs that help achieve the Triple Aim (better health, better healthcare and lower cost) across Aurora. Participates in collaborative development of strategy to address healthcare market issues facing Aurora. Partners with Las Vegas Plan leadership and staff on areas of potential synergy and mutual concern.
  • Devises, implements, and monitors activities aimed at reducing costs, increasing accuracy and efficiency, improving financial and operational effectiveness. Promotes commitment to effective collaboration and communication with Fund Participants, Employers, Local Unions, Vendors, and Providers to ensure Participants are afforded quality service and benefits
  • Fosters and manages relevant professional and external business relationships for Aurora
  • By CEO appointment, serves as a member of the Fund’s Employee Benefits Committee and Investment Committee for Staff Plan administration purposes
  • In partnership with HR, accountable for planning, directing, and evaluating Aurora employment decisions, staffing and organizational planning, promotions and other compensation actions, staff performance and talent development, succession planning, and other HR-related matters for all assigned positions and areas
  • Accomplishes financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances and providing options and recommendations to achieve goals and objectives; initiating corrective actions
  • Identifies, implements and regularly monitors/reports key performance metrics
  • Plans, analyzes, and evaluates programs and services, operational needs, and fiscal constraints
  • Supervises, leads, and delegates work and coaches, mentors, develops employees
  • Analyzes problems, identifies, and develops alternative solutions, projects consequences of proposed actions, and implements recommendation/solutions
  • Recommends hires and promotions, directs, and evaluates employment decisions for all assigned positions
  • Assists with developing and coordinating policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the oversight of continued employee training requirements, safety, and quality initiatives

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Years of Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum of fifteen plus (15+) years leadership experience in a health plan environment providing a strong working knowledge and financial understanding of health benefit plans, healthcare delivery systems, pharmacy plans, managed care contracting, member engagement and education, and operational performance and systems to support the work
  • Minimum of five plus (5+) years of executive-level leadership
  • Seasoned experience in a managed care environment highly preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of operations and general administration associated with managing a health plan and ERISA benefit plans
  • Strong understanding of healthcare trends and statistical measures of healthcare performance
  • Familiarity with Taft-Hartley Trust Funds highly preferred
  • Familiarity with benefits regulation, e.g., ERISA, DOL, IRS, COBRA, HIPAA, etc. highly preferred
  • Strong business acumen, particularly in the areas of finance, information technology and operational systems, strategic planning, budgeting and project management
  • Possesses and utilizes strong analytical skills to interpret and translate a strategic vision into a well-defined operational model and plan with clear objectives and metrics
  • Experience leading seasoned staff across a broad geography

Education, Licenses, and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field from an accredited institution
  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Health Plan Administration, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or related field preferred

  • Intermediate level Microsoft Office skills
  • 15% ~ 25% travel

    Salary range for this position: $250,000~$311,000. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to: relevant experience, qualifications, expertise, certifications, licenses, education or equivalent work experience, time in role, peer and market data, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
    Work Schedule (may vary to meet business needs): Monday~Friday, 7.5 hours per day (37.5 hours per week) with potential for hybrid work-from-home arrangement.
