Job Summary

The Region 5 Outreach Coordinator will work to coordinate community and post-secondary opportunities for JAG students in all participating Region 5 high schools. The Outreach Coordinator acts as a liaison between the school and the local community in the development of internship opportunities (paid and unpaid work experiences) for JAG students. The Outreach Coordinator works with the school principal, teachers, students and the WorkOne Center staff to identify internship possibilities for students; tracks workplace resources for the entire school (if asked), coordinates systems of communication, and is responsible for data collection concerning workplace learning. This is for students both in school and in the follow-up year after graduation. Additionally, the Outreach Coordinator will work with student's in-school and in follow-up to inform and prepare students for post-secondary transition and/or employment.

Essential Job Duties

Mentor and employment and internship development/coordination
  • Identifies resources in the community for mentor work, employment, or internship opportunities. Coordinates all employment contacts for WEX with the Business Services Representative.
  • Identifies resources in the community for student involvement or volunteering opportunities.
  • Coordinates and carries out mentor background check (in conjunction with Service Provider HR process), orientation and training sessions.
  • Work with JAG students to find employment and mentorship opportunities beyond high school, act as a resource for out-of-school JAG alum during the year of follow-up (tracked) and beyond.
  • Establishes ongoing partnerships with corporations, businesses, organizations, and community agencies to strengthen student learning and community engagement within the JAG schools.
  • Assists in the development of community events to educate the community regarding the JAG program and works to includes student participation when appropriate.
  • Works with the principals, teachers and the staff at the WorkOne Centers to coordinate employer contacts and resources.
  • Makes all related materials available to guidance counselors and school staff such as mentor guides, mentor profiles, and exit interview materials.
  • Enhances the schools' system for finding and sharing employment or internship opportunities and supporting materials.
  • Data review and monitoring data for performance and accuracy in Trackone & ENDMS.
  • Assistance with student recruitment & enrollment activities for JAG program.
  • Assistance with class monitoring to evaluate instructor effectiveness and determine student goal achievement for the program through monthly visits to each established site.


Supporting and Coaching Students
  • May assist in development of interest areas and skills through one-on-one coaching with students.
  • Development of mini workshops to enhance life/real world skills and delivery of workshops to students, as needed. Should include interview preparation.
  • May assist in providing technical assistance for all areas of career and employment questions for in-school JAG classrooms and out-of-school JAG alum during their year of follow-up and beyond.
  • Assists with senior youth on SAT/ACT applications (required), Compass (if needed), ASVAB testing (if needed), and other post-secondary admittance requirements.
  • Assists efforts with parents and JAG Specialists to assist youth with college applications. Additional efforts should be made during College Go! Week.
  • Assists JAG students in completion of scholarship opportunities and financial aid applications.


Other Duties:
  • Participates in school-wide special events and family nights (example: Open Houses).
  • Develops and maintains mentor, employment or internship assessments and evaluations.
  • Conducts employer interviews per JAG standard.
  • Maintains communication with mentor organizations, employers and community organizations.
  • Participate in mentor recruitment events.
  • Attends regional team and school meetings.
  • Prepares reports to be sent to DWD, as required.


Education

Bachelor's Degree in related field.

Experience

At least one year of related experience working with high school students.
