POSITION DESCRIPTION SPECIFICATIONS

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance JOB CODE: 98

POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Manager LOCATION: Gardner, MA

FLSA: Exempt DIRECT REPORT: Gardner Plant Manager

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Manager drives improved equipment reliability by ensuring all installations/repairs are
completed with quality workmanship and per best maintenance practices. The manager will assist with the
development of solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations.

Essential Job Functions:

 Acts as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities. Works in conjunction with the
Environmental Health & Safety Team to establish and maintain all policies and programs to assure a
safe working environment.

 Acts and performs as an interface between maintenance, production, contractors, and engineering.

 Establish and monitor staff performance and development to include goal setting, identifying
improvement targets for KPI s and performance management.

 Provide training and professional development for staff. Oversee and ensure the training of
employees. Guide the development of job skills and proficiency of job for staff. Maintain employee
motivation and morale within the department.

 Works with internal and external resources to provide solutions and improvements to machines,
equipment, and facility to meet plant goals, reduce costs, ensure safety compliance and improve
overall equipment effectiveness.

 Can design and fabricate various components, machine guards, and brackets to tight tolerances.
Repair and upgrade existing parts.

 Develops and follows project schedules for implementing equipment into the plant.

 Promoting a safety culture and awareness within the organization.

 Overseeing all aspects of maintenance, including the building, the equipment, and the grounds.

 Providing guidance for scheduled and breakdown work orders and attending to machine breakdowns
on an immediate basis until the problem is fixed. This position may require hands-on activities.

 Training and upskilling the collective departmental knowledge and skillset.

 Proactively collaborating with all departments with a continuous improvement mindset.

 Maintaining an appropriate level of parts inventory and monitoring expenses and controlling the
Maintenance budget.

 Hands on involvement with all PLC/Controls programming projects (troubleshooting, modifying,
upgrading etc.).

 Manage plant-wide maintenance and capital, maximizing asset reliability, uptime, and cost
effectiveness with available resources.

 Initiate work orders and actions to correct unsafe conditions.

 Provide long range planning for facility and equipment needs including capital and major repairs.

 Provide technical assistance and creative thinking during planning and coordination meetings to deliver
the most cost-effective solutions to mechanical and instrumentation issues.

 Prioritizes work to be performed by the maintenance technicians; consulting with Reliability/Planning
Engineers on work to be contracted to outside services.

 Work to develop and maintain predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance programs.

 Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

 Minimum of 5-7 years related experience.

 Manufacturing experience required.

 Proven Leadership skills and the ability to motivate people to perform at high levels.

 To perform this job successfully, an individual must have excellent attendance, be able to work
independently and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below
are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Knowledge:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or related field and/or equivalent experience in a converting
facility is required.

 5-7 years of Maintenance & Electrical repair, PLC fault diagnostics, and mechanical maintenance in a
light manufacturing environment.

 A minimum of 3 years of previous supervisory/management experience.

 High School or GED required.

 Demonstrated experience with Reliability Centered Maintenance (Preventive and Predictive
Maintenance) Programs.

 Experience and knowledge of roll stock cutting machines, printing presses, die cutting machines, and
straight-line gluers is preferred.

 Experience leading preventative/predicative/precision maintenance programs.

 Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and
use hands to handle or feel.

 The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.

 The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.

 Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel.

 Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

 The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

 Squatting, crouching, turning, twisting, stretching, climbing steps, grabbing, pulling, pushing, and
bending.

 Visual and hearing acuity within normal limits

Typical environment of manufacturing and production facilities. Exposure includes but is not limited to
continuous noise, scent of materials, bright workstations, machinery with moving parts.
