POSITION SUMMARY:

The Distribution Center (DC) Maintenance Technician performs repairs, preventive maintenance, and other related maintenance activity to optimize the up-time and efficiency of the DC. This position requires a creative approach and strong mechanical/electrical skills to resolve both current and potential issues with DC equipment and building systems. This role requires effective communication skills (oral and written) with DWK employees and outside vendors & contractors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited, to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Investigate and troubleshoot defective equipment and building systems through a combination of visual analysis, auditory indicators, mechanical/electrical testing, and discussions/feedback from other DC employees. This responsibility includes an awareness of sights and sounds coming from equipment and/or components that indicate probable mechanical or electrical failure.
  • Performs mechanical and electrical repairs/replacement for defective equipment and building systems using experience, specifications, mechanical/electrical schematic drawings, and manuals. Advises the DC Manager of all repairs requiring outside contractors as dictated licensing regulation (local, state, federal regulations), specialized equipment, or job size.
  • Create PM schedules and conduct the PM’s for equipment and building systems on a regularly scheduled basis. This duty shall include the inspection, service, replacement, and repair of the following: belts, fluid levels, filters, piping, wiring, bearings, shafts, gears, seals, valves, hydraulic/ pneumatic cylinders/ regulators, gauges, HVAC systems, etc. Maintain records of preventive maintenance work.
  • Install new equipment as required using experience, specifications, mechanical / electrical schematic drawings, and manuals. Ensures installation complies with local, state, or federal permitting, inspection, and licensing requirements.
  • Fabricate/ repair machine parts as necessary utilizing typical shop equipment (e.g. lathe, grinder, drill press, milling machine, cutting torch, and welder).
  • Organize and maintain an inventory of key replacement components (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, etc.) through a logical approach using a combination of risk, cost, and lead-time. Order key components, other replacement parts, and consumables as required to optimize DC equipment up-time.
  • Directs, monitors, and/or assists outside contractors conducting repair, installation, or other maintenance work within the DC. This duty shall include the responsibility and management to ensure the quality or work being performed and Kimble Chase safety guidelines are maintained.
  • Provide recommendations and action plans to the DC manager regarding equipment repairs/ maintenance, component/ equipment replacement, and/ or other items that could optimize DC equipment and efficiency.
  • Maintain records of daily repairs on the equipment. Schedule and document all PM performed keeping records on repairs, lubrications, and equipment conditions.
  • Maintain maintenance work areas in a clean and safe condition. Observe all safety precautions, rules and regulations. This responsibility shall include the use of personal protective equipment/ procedures required to perform specialized maintenance functions (eye protection, hearing protection, welding mask, gloves, safety harness/ belts, lock out/ tag out, etc.)

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years performing general mechanical and electrical maintenance on equipment and buildings, preferably in a warehouse or distribution center.
  • Must be able to read and analyze PLC data to determine appropriate course of action
  • Must possess both mechanical and electrical experience/skills.
  • Must possess a welding certificate or the ability to obtain one.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to pass the certification.
  • Basic computer skills. Must be able to satisfactorily complete an Excel and Word basic skills test
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience operating lathe, grinder, drill press, milling machine, cutting torch, and welder considered a strong plus.
