Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Histology Technician to join our laboratory team in Rapid City, SD. As a Histology Technician, you will play a critical role in processing tissue specimens for pathological analysis, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Responsibilities:

1. Receive, accession, and label tissue specimens accurately, ensuring proper identification and tracking throughout the processing workflow.
2. Perform tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining procedures following established protocols and safety guidelines.
3. Operate and maintain histology equipment, including microtomes, tissue processors, embedding stations, and staining machines, to ensure optimal performance and quality results.
4. Prepare histological slides for microscopic examination by pathologists, including mounting, coverslipping, and labeling slides according to laboratory standards.
5. Perform special stains and immunohistochemistry procedures as needed, following specific protocols and quality control measures.
6. Monitor quality control parameters, troubleshoot technical issues, and take corrective actions to ensure the accuracy and reliability of histological slides.
7. Maintain accurate records of specimen processing, staining protocols, and equipment maintenance activities in compliance with regulatory requirements and laboratory policies.
8. Assist pathologists and other laboratory staff in the interpretation and analysis of histological slides, providing support as needed for diagnosis and research purposes.
9. Adhere to safety protocols and infection control practices to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
10. Participate in continuing education and training programs to stay current with advances in histology techniques, technology, and best practices.

Qualifications:

1. Associate degree or higher in Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
2. Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certifying agency preferred.
3. Prior experience working as a Histology Technician or in a histology laboratory setting is highly desirable.
4. Strong technical skills in tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques, with attention to detail and accuracy.
5. Proficiency in operating and maintaining histology equipment and instruments, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
6. Knowledge of histology laboratory procedures, safety practices, and quality assurance principles.
7. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
8. Commitment to delivering high-quality results and providing exceptional service to patients, clinicians, and laboratory stakeholders.
9. Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
