Job Description

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Technician performs general, routine maintenance and servicing operations throughout the hospital plant and grounds as directed.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintains established department policies and procedures and quality assurance and safety objectives.  Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.  Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Has a good understanding of the Seven Environment of Care programs
  • Repairs woodwork using carpentry tools.  Checks and replaces broken electrical switches and makes other electrical repairs. 
  • Performs repairs and replacement of parts and equipment.  Ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies.
  • Performs minor repairs on electrical equipment, machinery, building and facilities; including painting, plastering, carpentry, plumbing and electrical power.
  • Prepares paint and applies to various structures as requested.
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections as required.
  • Keeps work place, tools, and equipment orderly, clean, and safe.
  • Assists with care and maintenance of department and facilities equipment and supplies.
  • Any and all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • General maintenance/construction experience preferred

Safe Environment:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Hospital specific and individual role in the fire/safety program including the following management plans:  safety, security, hazardous materials/waste, emergency preparedness, life safety, medical equipment and utility systems.
  • Participate in the Hospital policies and procedures relating to infection control for self, patients, and staff.
  • Observe proper body mechanics and safety precautions in all job duties.
  • Communicate information about incidents involving self, patients, staff and/or visitors to appropriate parties, using facility incident reporting systems as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
