AQUATICS & SAFETY - DIRECTOR (BARTLETT, TN)

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The position provides direct leadership, supervision, instruction and motivation for the aquatics department and staff in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures as well as creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes members safety and engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

General Operations

  • Manages a team of aquatics personnel. Schedules, monitors and approves time for all team members.
  • Schedule, conduct, and document training to ensure all team members’ training certifications are up to date. Training needs include, but are not limited to ARC training, CPR, First Aid, and Y-USA.
  • Develops and monitors annual Aquatics department revenue and expense budget to meet center fiscal objectives. Accountable for all aquatics department financial results.
  • Maintains the highest standards in pool safety and is in full compliance with the association and ARC standards and guidelines at all times.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, ARC, ADA guidelines, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities, Annual Campaign, and special events as needed.

Lifeguard

  • Responsible for all lifeguard shift scheduling and filling lifeguard shifts as necessary, including taking the stand as necessary.
  • Responsible for recruiting, training and recertifying current and potential lifeguards.
  • Oversee lifeguards while on deck, providing coaching and accountability as necessary.

Pool Operations

  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Responsible for fixing basic pool maintenance issues.
  • Tracking and overseeing the completion of daily chemical logs.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a current lifeguard, CPR/AED, O2, and First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Agrees to possess a Certified Pool Operation (CPO), Y-USA Swim Instructor certification and American Red Cross Lifeguard certification within three months of employment. Agrees to possess as WRC LGI and Y-USA swim instructor trainer certification within 6 months of employment.
  • At least two years of experience in instruction and management of a wide variety of Aquatics programs and pool maintenance
  • Experience in recruiting, building, managing and coaching teams.
  • Must have good interpersonal, public relations, and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries. Proficient in swimming and safety skills. Must be willing to learn all the YMCA does to impact our community.
  • Ability to work significant evening and weekend shifts required.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor and swim lesson instructor certifications. YMCA instructor certifications preferred.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Work schedules may vary per the Y’s hours of operation. Most Y’s are open 7 days a week:


Mon. – Fri. 5:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Sat. 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Sun. 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.


The schedule for this full time position is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, though overtime, evenings and weekend work may be required depending on the business needs.
