Job Description

We have an amazing opportunity for a Construction Director with experience in large, custom residential renovations and new builds for a fast-growing, design + build contractor in Austin, TX that includes hybrid remote, salary, select benefits, and excellent bonus potential.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced residential construction director passionate about inspiring others and skilled at navigating residential construction projects.

 

Job Summary

The Construction Director will be responsible for developing and expanding the construction operation, team, and company culture. This role will lead the construction department in achieving business objectives while upholding company values and vision throughout the entire construction process. The Director will ensure customer commitments are met and that high-quality residential new builds, additions, and remodels are delivered on schedule.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for all construction activities, including developing and refining project schedules and overall production flow across all projects.

• Complete construction projects on time, within budget, and within quality standards, to meet client and business performance expectations.

• Manage the planning, design review, budget, and execution of site development.

• Thoroughly and completely understand the construction contract, specifications, civil plans, architectural plans, and scopes of work for new builds, additions, and remodels.

• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal team, trade partners, and suppliers to promote a positive overall culture.

• Deliver excellence in customer satisfaction from pre-construction through project completion.

• Assist in the value engineering of all construction products and procedures.

• Approve purchase orders and variances as required.

• Generate change orders for review and approval by the CEO.

• Ensure all job site activities comply with the company’s established safety policies and procedures as well as with OSHA/EPA requirements.

• Monitor variance spending and strategize with department managers to identify and correct recurring or preventable problems.

• Coordinate pre-construction planning, finance, construction operations, sales, and design teams.

• Actively participates in leadership and strategy meetings.

• Directly accountable for all project profit and loss performance related to construction projects. Directly involved in the job cost analysis process on all projects within the assigned area to ensure consistent profitability on all jobs. Must be able to identify issues and make improvements where needed.

• Calculates labor, equipment, material, and overhead costs to determine minimum budget, which will provide for margin of profit.

• Directs construction and sequences of work to obtain optimum utilization of workforce and equipment to meet production/revenue projections within budget.

• Provides timely and constructive performance feedback to assigned team when needed.

• Directly oversees and monitors purchasing activities of raw materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies in the company by working through the appropriate internal partners.

• Visits every job site at least once per week and as often as needed to meet required performance objectives.

• Risk Management: Demonstrated identifying potential risks and challenges during the construction process, developing mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimize disruptions and delays.

 

Education, Experience and Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in project management, Business Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

• A minimum of five (5) years of construction Project Management experience is required.

• A minimum of ten (10) years of construction Project Management experience is preferred.

• PMI Certification is preferred

 

Physical & Other Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, up to 50% of the time.

• Ability to walk jobsites and inspect construction progress from ladders, scaffolding, stairs, framing, etc. Additionally, the employee will have to use hands and arms to reach, handle and feel, as well as to hear and speak while performing the duties of this position.

• Reliable transportation; personal truck is preferred.

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

 

Skills and Knowledge

• Knowledgeable about the construction industry, including construction cost, materials, products, methods, and procedures.

• Must have thorough knowledge of the trades, crafts, and equipment needed to complete the job, plus the ability to identify potential problems.

• Decisive judgment – demonstrated ability to assess situations or circumstances and draw sound and objective conclusions.

• Demonstrated solid judgment, decision-making, follow-up, social awareness, reading/writing, organization, timeliness, stress tolerance, and communication skills (oral and written).

• Knowledge and familiarity with reading blueprints, construction drawings, and addenda.

• Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize several tasks without compromising the quality of work or mission deadlines.

• Accountability – demonstrated ability to take responsibility for action and results.

• Proven ability to delegate tasks, follow up on assigned tasks, and regularly report on work progress.

• Proven organizational skills in a high-paced work environment.

• Must be able to use word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, presentation (PowerPoint), and portable document format (Adobe) software for advanced internal and external communications, creation of reports and presentations, and database maintenance.

• Ability to review, analyze, and interpret information as well as trouble-shoot to solve problems.

• Ability to coach/mentor others on design and construction technical components, applicable regulations and internal procedures.

 

Supervisory Position: Yes

Job Type: Full-time (Monday – Friday)
