We are currently searching for a Traffic Engineer/Transportation Planner to support our ever-growing Traffic Engineering and Planning Department of Mid-Atlantic Region located in Springfield, VA. This position is a hybrid position.

The successful candidate will work on challenging and complex transportation projects. The successful candidate will gain experience and receive mentorship under the supervision of Project Managers and will work in all facets of transportation engineering and planning. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and assist in completing various traffic planning and engineering tasks. What you’ll be doing:

  • Preparation of transportation planning and traffic engineering studies
  • Conduct traffic and crash analyses in support of interchange and corridor improvement studies
  • Perform intersection capacity analyses and prepare signal timing plans
  • Conduct signal warrant studies, traffic calming, speed studies and other study tasks
  • Conduct safety analysis tasks supporting Vision Zero programs
  • Prepare concept traffic design plans supporting multimodal planning and design projects
  • Support on systematic safety improvements, complete street planning, operations and design projects
  • Prepare conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, assemble engineering reports, PowerPoint presentations for client meetings
  • Collaborate with other departments supporting various safety, multimodal improvements, bike/ped planning and complete street projects
  • Participate in client meetings

What you need to have:

  • BS in Civil Engineering or Urban Planning
  • 3 - 10+ years of transportation planning/engineering experience
  • Proficient in traffic analyses software such as VISSIM, Synchro/Simtraffic, Sidra, HCS
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Microstation or AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with GIS, Adobe Suites to produce maps
  • PE or AICP is preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to present and convey information concisely and clearly.

The project's standout feature is an innovative separated cycle track, the first of its kind in Washington, DC, pioneering a new approach for safety and multimobility at DDOT.
