SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), you will be a key advocate for the health, observability, and maintainability of our production environment and its associated components. The ideal candidate possesses a background in both software development and systems skills, grounded in computer science fundamentals.
LOCATION100% Remote - Anywhere within the US
RESPONSIBILITIESEvangelism Skills: Ability to articulate site reliability concepts in both business and technical terms, fostering stakeholder buy-in for key metrics like SLIs/SLOs.
Fault Tolerance: Deep understanding of fault tolerance in software and systems, with expertise in discussing architectural design patterns.
Automation Mindset: Strong desire to automate tasks, employing infrastructure as code and tooling to eliminate toil.
Curiosity: Natural curiosity to understand why and how things work, going beyond functionality to comprehend the underlying mechanisms.
Total Ownership: Willingness to take ownership, investigate unfamiliar areas, and contribute from browser to persistence layer, with solid debugging skills.
Architectural Thinking: Understanding of distributed computing fundamentals, striving for system resilience, self-healing, and reduced human intervention.
Experience: Minimum 4-6 years in DevOps, SRE, Systems, or software development roles.
Email Delivery Experience: Deep understanding of email delivery - SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC is a must.
Cloud Expertise: Extensive experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Containerization Knowledge: Deep understanding of workload orchestration and containerization (Kubernetes, Docker).
Automation Skills: Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Ruby, Python) and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
CI/CD Experience: Familiarity with CI/CD platforms like GitLab or Jenkins.
Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in supporting critical production systems with minimal downtime.
Networking Basics: Basic understanding of networking components, including routing, DHCP, and DNS.
Availability: Willingness to participate in our 24x7x365 on-call rotation..
Mentorship Experience: Previous experience mentoring both developers and junior engineers.
Bonus Points: Interest in Helm/Kapitan, exposure to Ruby on Rails and interest and knowledge with Golang, specifically within the context of the Kubernetes API
