Job Description

The Media Manager position partners with assigned brand teams to set paid media strategies, determine advertising channels and establish media spending by channel. The Media Manager will work across all areas of the organization to communicate media strategies, plans, and results for both consumer and professional media. Working with our media agencies of record, you will develop and execute strategic media plans for a set of brands/indications. The Media Manager should have experience in uses of traditional and digital media channels, as you will be expected to conceive, plan and execute winning, innovative media solutions across various products consistent with each brand’s business strategies.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the development and execution of all media activities under your assigned brands/indications and identifying target audience and ideal channels to reach our target. Duties include working with our media agencies to identify and recommend media outlets that fit the target audience, implementing the schedule via the agencies, disseminating media flowcharts, and managing media billing and finance process.  You will provide POVs and white papers and make presentations to the Marketing teams as well as to cross-functional teams.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Media Strategies and Planning

  • Ensure all media strategies ladder up to and deliver on the brand business goals and objectives
  • Ensure media strategies are strong and push brands toward results
  • Ensure each plan has innovation, test & learn components
  • Push the envelope for ways to bring creativity and innovation to the media plans
  • Work with the media agency to translate media strategies into tactics
  • Consistently demonstrate offline and online subject matter expertise and ability to change course easily

 Media Buying and Buy Stewardship

  •  Ensure media agency teams come with great ideas, strong executions, efficiencies and effective measurement to meet brand business objectives
  • Manage and implement approved media plan ensuring flawless execution and all deadlines are met
  • Review vendor consideration set with the agencies
  • Brand/Agency Management and Collaboration
  • Develop and maintain effective day-to-day relationships with Marketing teams and our agencies of record
  • Thorough understanding of brands/indications business and important facets

Coach, mentor, motivate agency personnel

  •  Collaborate with internal cross-functional partners on shared business goals and projects  Media Administration
  • Ensure internal and agency teams are adhering to planning process, policies & procedures
  •  Ensure all Media budgets are met and constantly monitored
  • Ensure all weekly/monthly/quarterly reporting is received and shared internally in a timely fashion
  • Participate in media agency feedback surveys as well as performance review meetings
  • Review business documents and ensure accuracy

Industry Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of industry trends, audience trends, promotional resources, competitive landscape
  •  Attend industry trade shows to keep current on marketplace knowledge

 Competitive Tracking and Analysis

  •  Tracking/monitoring media activity, including competitive analysis
  • Disseminate competitive reporting to brand teams and data analytics groups

Significant Work Activities -Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day)

 

Qualifications

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-8 years of Paid Media experience working across several aspects of media (TV/offline, digital, programmatic, social, etc.)
  • Prior media agency experience is a must.
  • Experience with media in the Pharma industry is a plus.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to determine brand’s media goals, strategies, tactics and provide recommendations to internal stakeholders
  • Experience with digital activation platforms and data providers, in addition to offline and strategy experience, is prefered
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and vendors simultaneously with high attention to detail and adherence to departmental process
  • Ability to multi-task and oversee several media plans, vendors, and internal constituents while managing deadlines and coordinating across groups
  • Extremely organized and proactive with the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced team environment
  • Constant learner who keeps up on trends and anything new in the marketplace
  • Must be able to negotiate with vendors, agencies

GENERAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong communication (both written and verbal) and business acumen
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong with Microsoft software tools, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and able to learn new software programs
  •  Knowledge of third party partners like Nielsen, MRI, Kantar/Vivvix, etc. and third party tools like Media Tools, Google Campaign Manager, etc.
  • Strong functional knowledge; can be viewed as a Subject Matter Expert in media across channels
  • Inquisitive with strong analytical skills, including the ability to infer and apply learnings
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and influence to ensure deliverables and deadlines are met
  • Strong Agency management, including the ability to delegate responsibility, manage work and priorities, provide coaching/mentoring/difficult feedback to ensure AbbVie’s high quality standards are always met
