Job Description
Salary:

We’re looking for an experienced full-time chef and nanny to prepare all meals for our family of four at our private residence in Austin. We have a busy home with two school-age children (ages 8 and 11), two cats, two tortoises (our son always reminds us they’re part of the family too!) and we enjoy regularly hosting. We’re looking for a chef who is passionate about nutrition and loves the challenge of making healthy meals that taste delicious and is happy to customize to each individual’s preferences. Experience with Japanese cuisine is a plus as everyone in our family loves Japanese food, but we like a wide range of cuisines and like to regularly try new dishes.

In this role, you’ll work alongside our House Manager who also works out of our home each day. Your primary focus will be on everything related to food and the kitchen in our home. We are seeking someone who is creative in the kitchen, enjoys keeping the menu fresh, loves to plan out their week, and seeks out regular feedback to understand each person’s preferences. The nanny aspects of the job are just a couple hours each day. Given the age of our kids, they’re pretty independent. But it’s important to us that you connect with children and like this aspect of the job. You will pick up our children after-school and help them get a snack and get started on their homework. They are also the picky eaters of the house. They are pretty open about taking a bite of new foods to try them, but they’re at the age where it can be a challenge to create healthy dishes that they enjoy eating. They are both aware of this and promise they’re trying to be less picky. :) But we need someone who is up for the challenge!

We’re a communicative and appreciative family. We’re very open with feedback and praise so you’ll never have to guess what we are thinking. We also have high standards and work well with someone who is very organized, tracks lots of details, plans ahead, and is similarly communicative—checking in with us and asking for feedback on dishes. You will also be part of a team who will support you. In addition to your colleague, our House Manager, we (the parents) both work from home and often have guests over so it’s a busy household!

Responsibilities:

  • Meal Planning: Design a meal plan every week that caters to our preferences, feedback, and takes into account the schedule for the week, including guests.
  • Culinary Curiosity: Research and experiment with new recipes to keep menus fresh, nutritious, and exciting.
  • Culinary Expertise: Prepare simple, nutritious meals on time, fresh, and to the highest standards. This will include fresh breakfast and lunch for the adults and fresh dinner for the entire family. For our kids, prepare a breakfast we can “self-serve” to them in the mornings and work with them to pack nutritious school lunches.
  • Snacks and weekends: Before the weekend, prepare healthy snacks. Cook 2-3 extra meals and one snack board on Fridays for us to self-serve and eat over the weekend
  • Kitchen Organization, Upkeep, and Inventory: Expertly maintain and manage the kitchen inventory, including grocery shopping, to ensure a well-stocked and organized kitchen and pantry. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and equipment.
  • Childcare: Pick up children from school daily and oversee homework time. If a child is home for the day, adjust the schedule (perhaps less cooking) to help supervise as needed.
  • Team Player: Work in a coordinated manner as a part of our household team and occasionally assist with miscellaneous errands for the household.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Passion for the art of healthy cooking and preparing nutritious meals
  • Someone who seeks out and embraces feedback to ensure everyone’s enjoying their meals
  • Persistent and is up for the challenge of children who are sensitive to texture, strong smells, flavors, etc…
  • Expert planning, time management, and communication skills
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated, and hard working
  • Life-long learner who embraces learning new things and growing in your craft
  • Team player who’s eager to maintain a tidy, organized space
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Able to work legally in the United States

Benefits and Compensation:

  • We will provide full health insurance benefits, paid time off, sick days, and compensation based on expereience.

Location: Austin, TX

Schedule: Full-Time, 10 am - 6 pm Monday - Friday with occasional opportunity to work extra hours.

If this sounds like you, please apply. We look forward to talking with you about this opportunity!
