Position Summary:


The Harm Reduction Manager provides leadership through the oversight and management of the Syringe Exchange Program, known as JC’s Exchange, the HIV and Viral Hepatitis Testing Program, and Overdose Prevention Program. This role is responsible for maintaining state and federal regulations for the operation of a syringe exchange program, HIV / HCV testing certifications, and ensuring overdose prevention education and outreach is happening in all Wabanaki Communities and provides support to other WPHW Division ensuring access to harm reduction information, education, and resources.   


Duties and Responsibilities:


    • Support and supervise 4-6 harm reduction staff. 
    • Ensures staff have appropriate training and certifications to perform HIV/HCV screening, operate the syringe exchange, and distribute Narcan / Naloxone /fentanyl testing strips.   
    • Develops Harm Reduction educational materials for Wabanaki communities. 
    • Develops and maintains a schedule of Harm reduction activities and events for all Wabanaki communities and WPHW programs. Such as, Tribal Health Fairs, National Indigenous HIV Testing Day, National Overdose Prevention Day, and integration with youth programming.  
    • Supports the management of Federal and State grant requirements. 
    • Submits timely program reports to Leadership as required. 
    • Wokes collaboratively with Public Health Analysts and CWRKI to ensure appropriate data management, storage, and protections are in place.  
    • Coordinates events and activities with other WPHW divisions and events.  
    • Attends and participates in local and state harm reduction coalitions as appropriate. 
    • Collaborates and contributes to youth programing for safer sex, substance use prevention, and harm reduction education.  
    • Collaborates with WPHW Human Resources to provide harm reduction training to WPHW staff and partners as appropriate.  
    • Perform other duties as assigned.


    Education and Experience Required:


    • University degree or college diploma in public health, social work, social services, nursing, or 4 years equivalent field experience.  
    • Experience with infectious disease control, addiction, substance use treatment, and/or recovery required. 
    • At least two (2) years of previous management experience required. 
    • Experience working in Tribal Communities.

        • Excellent organizational and communication skills. 
        • The ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently. 
        • A strong work ethic and enthusiasm. 
        • Candidate must be willing to travel with some overnights for trainings, gatherings, and events. 
        • A good driving record and access to reliable transportation are required. 
        • Must pass criminal and other background checks as required of the position.
