Salary:
Job Summary: A Welder, or Brazer, is responsible for assembling pieces of metal together or repairing damage in metal components using heavy machinery that emits high heat, melting the metal into shape.
Accountabilities:
- Follow HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) regulations and policies
- Follow and provide input to all work instructions
- Achieve team goals and objectives for achievement of operational results: Safety; Quality; Delivery; and Productivity (SQDP)
- Follow and provide input to the lean enterprise system in all phases of the production process
- Meet the department objectives/KPI’s
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must maintain required ASME Welding certifications.
- Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
- Abilty to apply ASME code quality welds using all types of metals (stainless steel, carbon steel, titanium, etc.)
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures prior to starting a project
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Obtain the materials to be used in the project
- Set up components for welding according to specifications, cut material with hand tools (powered and manual) as required to meet requirements.
- Prepare joints properly prior to welding.
- Layout job as required using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
- Properly prepare, assemble, and tack weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
- Properly follow assigned WPS.
- Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
- Checking finished work to make sure that it falls within the tolerances marked on the blueprints
- Perform VT/PT on work to identify any flaws.
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety and ensures continued proper functionality (preventive maintenance)
- Repair machinery and other components by welding as needed.
- Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
- Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered
- Work overtime as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Skills/Competencies Required:
- Must pass 3G plate test and 6G pipe test.
- Proven experience as an ASME code welder
- Must consistently demonstrate code quality work.
- Ability to make proper code weld repairs.
- Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
- Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models and blueprints.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use required protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
- Attention to detail
- Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments
- Effectively communicate with internal and external business partners, English preferred
- Maintain compliance with organizational Core Values
- Exhibit and develop organizational Leadership Competencies
- Comply to Production SOP’s
- Work effectively in a team based environment
Education, Qualifications and Experience:
- 3 years welding experience preferred
- High School Education, diploma, or equivalent
- Must pass 3G plate test and 6G pipe test as a condition of employment or internal move into this role.
- LEAN experience in manufacturing environment
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, etc.)
- Experienced in welding various metals (e.g. stainless steel, carbon steel, titanium, etc.)
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit/stand/walk for up to 10 hours/day
- Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Must be able to see details at close range.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials
