Position Overview:

The Test Cell Technician will coordinate all activities with Test Cell Lead and Quality Assurance Lead. Work involves interaction with co-workers, management and customers; must be able to work independently and within a team environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Generator set hookup, testing, and disconnection and cleaning after test. Data recording during test.
  • Recognizing nonconformities and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems under guidance.
  • Cleaning and organizing test cell when not in operation.
  • Assisting with assembly and other production tasks as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Ability to clearly communicate questions and findings.
  • Basic knowledge of and experience servicing internal combustion engines (diesel preferred). Basic knowledge of single-phase and three-phase AC power. Experience using digital multi-meters and other electrical measurement tools.
  • Understanding of basic DC control elements such as switches and delay timers.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Able to use basic computer software and learn Northern Lights workflow system.

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma. Minimum 1 year relevant technical training.
  • Experience with diesel generator sets.
  • Experience with marine generator sets.
  • Experience with low-voltage DC controls and wiring. Experience with AC power installations.
  • Experience with parallel generator operation.

Tool Requirements:

  • Own set of basic hand tools (metric and SAE combination wrenches, 1/4” & 3/8” drive ratchets and sockets, screwdrivers and pliers)
  • Steel-toed/safety-toed boots.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
