Civil Superintendent

HPM Contracting is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Superintendent for our Colorado operations, though this position may travel as project needs change.

Position Overview

The Civil Superintendent will lead the successful and safe completion of construction projects on time, within budget, and to the agreed upon contractual standards. As the front-line supervisor of a project or specific operations, they will oversee and coordinate all aspects of the construction process, ensuring safety and quality while providing effective leadership to HPM's foremen, crews, and subcontractors.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10-15 years of relevant heavy civil experience in heavy-civil and mining related projects, with at least 10 years as a supervisor demonstrating a high level of competency of complex construction practices along with effectively understanding the capabilities of personnel and heavy equipment. Additionally, the successful candidate will be detail-oriented, able to manage and communicate effectively with the client's representative and all third-party stakeholders, and capable of competently using computers and project software.

Responsibilities

  • Liaison between project management, field engineering, and the craft team to ensure compliance of construction drawings and specifications as well as an understanding of HPM's budget and contractual obligations.
  • Develop and provide weekly construction schedules.
  • Understand, track, and monitor work to intended production goals, manpower, or equipment.
  • Implement daily/project total goals and budget requirements.
  • Support a project (or projects) by determining method of construction, manpower levels, material quantities needed, work schedule, and documenting actual hours worked.
  • Work with foremen and key personnel to ensure proper care of equipment and the necessary reporting and documentation to maintain equipment.
  • Planning and implementing construction means/methods, schedules, productivity innovations, and site logistics.
  • Monitoring cost control and job costing, quantity reporting, forecasting, and productivity.
  • Developing, monitoring, and executing the project construction plan and schedule.
  • Organizing and coordinating all subcontractor activities.
  • Understanding of, and adherence to, all site environmental requirements and applicable governing laws.
  • Managing project close-out; responsible for final inspections, eliminating deficiencies, performing warranty work, and site demobilization.

Qualifications

  • 10-15 years in Heavy Civil Construction
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience as a superintendent/foreman in excavating and embankment, retaining walls, utility installation, small concrete structure installation, and site coordination/logistics.
  • Demonstrate expertise in all aspects of the construction process including the safe and productive use of heavy equipment.
  • Able to schedule, lead, supervise, manage, and motivate multiple foremen and crews consisting of at least 20+ total craft employees.
  • Highly proficient in reading and comprehending project Plans and Specifications.
  • Ability to remain calm, composed, and behave in a professional manner while working in a high stress environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word® and Excel®.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in construction management, construction engineering, or a related degree; or comparable work experience and construction trade competency
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Current MSHA 24 hr. or 40-hr. certification
  • USACE CQM certification

Minimum Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee must have the ability to:

  • Sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Manipulate (lift, carry, move) weights of at least ten (10) pounds.
  • Use repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on a computer and/or related office equipment.
  • Speak clearly and concisely so listeners can understand; and regularly understand the speech of another person.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $130,000 - $160,000 per year (dependent on skills and experience)
