Job Description

The purpose of this position is to lead the classroom and enrich the student experience as the whole child. This

position will report to the school executive administration. Joining The Compass School of Texas team is a

Responsibilities for the Teacher will include, but are not limited to, working with students to support students’

academic growth as recorded by weekly documentation and shared with parents. The Teacher will collaborate

with other educators, faculty and administration to support the implementation of the The Compass School of

Texas curriculum. The Teacher will apply consistent classroom management strategies to support an orderly

classroom and fulfill assigned extra duties which may include carpool and/or the lunch hour.

The ideal candidate for this position should hold a B.A. or B.S. degree from a four-year college or university, a

teacher certification or enrolled in a teacher certification program, and a strong interest in the education of early

elementary students. The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong

work ethic, a positive and enthusiastic personality, and a strong command of the English language, as well as the

ability to work well as part of a team.

Applicants should be strong team players and be very initiative-taking and flexible. Final candidates need to be

prepared for a teaching demonstration.

Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

● Develop, plan, and implement curriculum, lesson plans, and educational programs for students within

interdisciplinary teaching in collaboration with Curriculum Specialist and Pedagogy Specialist as needed.

● Advise, test, and teach students in a variety of academic subjects. Presents and reinforces learning concepts

with real-world and hands-on applications.

● Answer student inquiries related to curriculum to ensure each student’s understanding of material.

● Set educational and developmental goals for the children in your cohort, both as a group and

individually and ensure each student’s academic success which may be tailored to individual needs.

● Prepare and submit appropriate documentation and academic reports and reports on programs and on

student progress both to the executive team and to parents along with any specialized learning plans for

individual children as needed.

● Prepare the environment (indoor and outdoor) thoughtfully every day so that it supports those

objectives.

● Plan and conduct appropriate daily curriculum and long-term projects to further support those goals.

● Arrive at school 30 minutes before carpool and is available for assigned duties or set-up (7:30 am) and

stays until 30 minutes after dismissal or enrichments

● Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including the 2 -3 week summer

session

● Attend and participate in all staff meetings and maintain strong communication within staff

● Perform necessary duties including but not limited to bus, morning lunch, and afternoon duties

● Chaperone field lessons and field trips

● Abide by all state and federal mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect

● Uphold and model behavior within the schools values, code of conduct and all school policies

● Maintain and support a positive professional school culture

● Support and follow directives of campus administrators.

Requirements

● Bachelor’s degree in Education, or Child Development Certificate, or 5+ years’ experience working

with children required.

● Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding people skills

● Problem solving, creativity, excellent multitasking skills, and ability to thrive in a start-up environment

are necessary

● Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

● Ability to evaluate, design lesson plans, and implement curriculum, testing, teaching methodologies and

train associate teachers

● Excellent communication skills and ability to present in public to both parents and other educators

● Enjoy working with children, including ones with mild learning differences

● Ability to work well in a team and in a very collegial and collaborative environment

● Willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the Compass Community

● Obvious passion for the academic subject matter being taught

● Excellent attendance and punctuality

● Promotes autonomy and critical thinking

● Knowledge of Reggio Emilia approach is a plus, but will train.
