Environmental Specialist

Father Bill’s & MainSpring is committed to ending and preventing homelessness in Southern Massachusetts with programs that provide emergency and permanent housing and help people obtain skills, jobs, housing, and services. We help people who are struggling with homelessness or are at risk of homelessness to achieve self-sufficiency.

Father Bill’s & MainSpring is a growing and dynamic social service agency with particular expertise in emergency and permanent housing, job training and placement, and prevention services for individuals and families in need. Over the next five years, our strategic focus includes an increase in affordable, permanent supportive housing, a more efficient model of care for families experiencing homelessness, commitment to an enhanced delivery model to reduce the need for shelter, and improved community relations in order to achieve these goals. Position Summary:

The environmental specialist is responsible for the internal and external upkeep and cleanliness of assigned Father Bill’s & Main Spring owned or operated properties throughout the south shore. The environmental specialist maintains safe and hazard-free living and working conditions in all buildings. This is a Full-time/40 hours per week position reporting to the Facilities Manager. 1+ years of experience in property upkeep preferred.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Performs a range of housekeeping duties to maintain a clean interior and exterior environment throughout assigned properties.
• Report hazardous or unsafe conditions to the Facilities Manager for immediate resolution
• Maintains daily cleaning of assigned properties
• Ensure the availability of clean linens through washing, drying and folding linens as assigned.
• Basic tasks include, but are not limited to: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, polishing, dusting, and the cleansing of any and all designated objects/areas.
• Operate vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, buffers and wall washing equipment including any other power machinery as instructed.
• Maintains stock of all housekeeping supplies in assigned areas and maintains housekeeping closets and equipment.
• Performs daily floor care maintenance.
• Sets up and cleans meeting rooms.
• Collects and disposes of trash and waste (both infectious and non-infectious) as needed.
• Cleans, disinfects and sanitizes items such as bathroom sinks, floor, and shower (if applicable); fill soap dispenser, and paper towel and tissue dispensers.
• Communicates to supervisor any repairs needed and submit appropriate work orders.
• Follows established safety procedures.

Travel: Local travel is required. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.

Must be able to verbally convey detailed information or important instructions or ideas accurately or quickly. Must be able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information. Average visual acuity is necessary. Ability to lift objects of up 20 25 pounds. This position requires moving around and the ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time. There may be outdoor work required in inclement weather conditions such as cold, heat, rain or snow.
