Job Description
Phone Nurse / Visual Fields technician
The following duties will be implemented in the position of GW phone nurse.
Phone Nurse:
- Triage all phone calls that come through phone nurse line (once designated line is established). Able to use green phone notes, or phone note template in ExamWriter and communicate with staff and physicians at their preference (email, written phone note, EMR phone note, direct conversation.)
- Contact Lens voice mail and any orders for patients calling in to be placed. All information taken, orders placed, and insurance attached. Any requests on expired contacts should be directed to the doctor before refilled- do not automatically deny patient but inform them that it will be up to the doctor due to the expired RX.
- Everything that comes off the fax and placed in Dr’s files needs to be worked through. This includes refills, chart notes to be faxed to outside doctors, lab results, etc. Anything that is to be reviewed by the doctor can be placed back in the file with the medical record number on it with the upcoming appt and with which doctor to be given by staff to their doctor.
- Reminder phone calls for the front desk for all schedules at GW 2 days in advance. This is if you are able to do so and the front desk staff are unable to complete them. More likely it will be needed on days when only 2 staff at GW front desk.
- Any additional job functions requested by doctors or management.
Visual Fields / Equipment Testing
- Provide Testing on Visual Fields equipment.
- Provide Testing on OPTOS, OCT, Orb Scan and Fundus Photos equipment.
- Any additional job functions requested by TVCC doctors or management.
