Job Description
The Associate Instrumentation Engineer / Instrumentation Engineer is expected to apply engineering techniques to perform work in the development of a new flow-cytometry/microscopy like instrument for life-science and clinical applications. This position offers the chance to make significant contributions alongside a team dedicated to groundbreaking life science technologies. Examples of characteristic duties and responsibilities include:

•      Participate in the development and validation of our advanced optical instrument, focusing on the design of mechanical and optical components, and the assembly and alignment of the prototype instrument.

•      Manage the installation, calibration, and maintenance of instruments, ensuring operational reliability and performance consistency according to our rigorous standards.

•      Conduct thorough testing and validation of new instruments and features, utilizing both experimental and computational techniques to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.

•      Manage inventory of parts, and help the team set up and maintain a manufacturing area where prototype instruments are assembled and serviced.

•      Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the manufacturing, maintenance, and routine use of the instrument, contributing to knowledge sharing and best practices within the team.

•      Provide technical support and training to team members and users, fostering a collaborative and informed environment.

•      Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including biology, chemistry, and software engineering, to ensure the seamless integration and optimization of the instrument within broader application workflows.

•      Collaborate with CROs and CMOs for the development of instrument and consumables.

•      Perform other related duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, or related Disciplines with: 

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in instrumentation, preferably in the development of scientific instruments.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical design, optical systems, and electronic circuits.
  • Proficiency with CAD software, such as SolidWorks and/or Inventor, for designing mechanical parts and systems.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with microfluidics, including design, fabrication, experimentation, and troubleshooting.
  • Basic programming skills to support instrument development, with experience in Python or LabVIEW preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work on complex projects that present multidimensional challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear and concise documentation, knowledge sharing, and technical support.
  • A proactive attitude with a keenness to learn new skills and technologies, especially those relevant to life sciences instrumentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in the above related field.
  • Experience with advanced data analysis tools and techniques, applicable to flow cytometry, microscopy, and similar scientific instrumentation.
  • Prior involvement in projects that have led to the development of patented technology or the publication of research in life science instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, interdisciplinary teams, showing exceptional adaptability and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment relevant to life sciences and medical devices, such as familiarity with FDA regulations and ISO standards.

Salary Range and Benefits: 

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and starts at $65K+ with annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
