Senior Manager, Transportation
Job Summary
Our client, a major global manufacturer with locations throughout the world is seeking their Senior Manager of Transportation. The Senior Manager, Transportation is responsible for all operations associated with transportation plans and logistics function for the organization.
This position oversees storage and movement of goods and/or supplies and also establishes policies and procedures governing transportation operations.
This role manages the Specialist, Transportation as well as vendor relationships, resolving quality, shipping, and invoicing issues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Duties and Responsibilities below and are not limited to:
• Transportation Management.
• Oversee all storage and movement of goods or supplies.
• Establish policies and procedures governing transportation.
• Assess departmental performance, identify weaknesses or risk, and
suggest operational changes to improve efficiency or reduce cost.
• Analyze and solve operational barriers with a focus on understanding
root cause analysis and driving forward opportunities.
• Contribute to strategic planning, direction and goal setting for the
Department.
• Vendor Management
• Manage vendor relationships to resolve quality, shipping, or invoicing
issues.
• Proactively manage and monitor transportation network to identify
potential issues, on-time arrival and delivery and vendor related
issues.
• Develop and maintain standards and Service Level Agreements (SLA) with carrier and vendors
during daily management and process improvement.
• Evaluate prospective vendors, select the best vendors for the needs
of the business, manage through the Request for Proposal (RFP)
process to the vendor selection and negotiate the final contract.
• Collaboration
• Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to optimize Supply
Chain, increase operational effectiveness and improve customer satisfaction.
Additional Position Responsibilities
• If this position has any direct reports, additional responsibilities include:
- Overall management of staff, ensuring assignments and duties are completed as required
- Compose and conduct performance reviews
- Provide guidance, training, mentoring, coaching and development
- Make recommendations regarding hiring, promoting and terminating
• Perform in accordance with Corporate Policies and Procedures, as well as applicable federal/state/local regulations and guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
Education Level Education Details Required/Preferred
Bachelor's Degree Supply Chain, Logistics, Business or related field is Required.
Master's Degree Supply Chain, Logistics, Business or related field is a Plus.
Experience
Minimum 10 years -Experience in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Operations in a large
distribution or fulfillment center with experience managing a site and leading a team.
-Demonstrated negotiation skills and management of third-party vendors/carriers is a must.
Licenses and Certifications:
APICS CPIM, Certified Supply Chain Professional, (CSCP) or Certified Logistics, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD Pr).
Software/Technical Skills:
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) software – business process management software,
such as Oracle’s JD Edwards. EnterpriseOne or Microsoft Dynamics AX.
Advanced skill Required:
MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Advanced Required
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Ability to negotiate skillfully to arrive at agreements that benefit the company is Required.
Outstanding customer insight and service is a Must.
Demonstrated ability to organize and lead projects to closure is Required
Proven leadership, problem solving skills, along with the ability to work independently is a Must.
Strong communication and facilitation skills that can be tailored to different audiences and environments are necessary.
Understanding and in-depth knowledge of domestic transportation industry best practices is required.
Location: Memphis, TN
Compensation: 110k-120k plus 20% Bonus and all benefits.
