Golden Pass LNG, a joint venture between ExxonMobil and QatarEnergy, has the vision to become the premier LNG export company in North America. Headquartered in Downtown Houston, the Golden Pass LNG organization expects to double in size over the next several years as we complete the project, commence natural gas trading activities, and ramp up towards full LNG production.  Once full operations commence, Golden Pass LNG will become the second largest consumer of natural gas in the US and produce more than 200 cargos of LNG per annum.

Job Summary / Purpose

The primary responsibility of the Commodity Accounting Analyst is to support the Commodity Accounting Manager, Director, and Corporate Controller in leading the company’s commodity accounting and reporting obligations, which includes commodity inventories, lease accounting, and all mark-to-market activities. The Commodity Accounting Analyst will be responsible for various commodity accounting and reporting aspects. The Commodity Accounting Analyst will collaborate with various stakeholders across multiple departments.

Essential Duties / Functions

  1. Assists with the financial accounting and reporting to the company’s shareholders. Financial reporting shall consist of the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and related disclosure items in compliance with US GAAP and prepare necessary adjustments related to IFRS.
  2. Assists with month end and year end close activities including reviewing and analyzing financial data, statements, and reports to ensure compliance with US GAAP.
  3. Assists with interim and year end audit processes with the external audit firm. Assists in coordinating PBC and other audit requests. Works closely with external auditors on controls questions, issues, and deficiencies.
  4. Manages monthly tasks of preparing journal entries, account reconciliations and supporting schedules. Manages accounting for commodity inventories, accruals, leases, and mark to market/derivative activities.
  5. Manages the process of daily exchange clearing reporting
  6. Manages monthly tasks of balance sheet reconciliation and variance analysis for commodity-related accounts.
  7. Assist in preparing the white paper that supports the accounting treatment booked.
  8. Fully supports company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities.
  9. Own and oversee function’s processes, controls, and documentation.
  10. Special projects as needed.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business Administration

Minimum experience required of the position.

  • 3+ years of financial accounting and reporting within the O&G market in compliance with US GAAP. Strong knowledge of financial derivatives settlements, ideally in physical and financial gas, natural gas assets (pipeline and storage), heavy hydrocarbons, and LNG.
  • Experience with BIG-4 accounting firm preferred.
  • Experience in technical accounting
  • Experience in lease accounting
  • Experience in top ERP systems, preferably SAP
  • Experience in top ETRM systems, preferably Endur
  • 3+ years of experience in financial accounting and reporting

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position.

  • Technical Competency - Ability to understand and dissect complex agreements and ensure their proper financial reflection in Golden Pass’ accounts and financial statements by US GAAP. Strong knowledge of commodity accounting and reporting, preferably involving mark-to-market/derivative accounting, lease accounting, and physical commodity treatment and presentation.
  • Communication – Able to take complex accounting requirements and results and communicate these clearly and concisely to all levels of the organization, including non-financial team members, building understanding and knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong relationships and seamless interfaces across the business, including front, middle and back-office teams as well as with senior management.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office tools.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position.

  • CPA and/or MBA preferred
