Compensation: $21/hour
Biocoat is a global leader in developing, manufacturing, and applying hydrophilic coatings to medical devices. Our hydrophilic coatings allow for medical devices to easily transverse through the body by minimizing friction as the material moves to its intended destination.
The Research and Development Intern is primarily responsible for supporting company innovation initiatives in medical device coating applications. This position is onsite at our Horsham office.
What will I do?
- Select, prepare, and formulate new coating solutions according to desired specifications.
- Apply coatings on medical devices and substrates in accordance with specifications.
- Investigate a problem, formulate a plan to find a solution, and execute on an appropriate time schedule.
- Operate and maintain processing equipment including, but not limited to, the coatings machine and friction tester. Provide input on fixture and process improvements.
- Perform analytical testing on coated devices to characterize uniformity and performance of coatings.
- Write coating procedures and/or other work instructions.
- Write reports to document findings.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university.
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical. Engineering, Materials Science or a related technical field.
- Only students who have completed their sophomore year or above will be considered.
- Must be able to work full time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship which is approximately 12 weeks depending on the student’s schedule.
- Must have legal authorization to work in the United States and not require sponsorship for an employment visa now or in the future.
- Must be able to provide your own transportation to and from the work location.
- GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to endure the physical demands of the position which include repetitive lifting, standing for long periods of time, wearing required PPE while demonstrating safe work practices.
- Preference is given to students who have had prior hands-on laboratory experience in a professional or academic setting.
