Maintenance Supervisor

PURPOSE:

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading the shift maintenance personnel and ensuring all maintenance work and scheduled PMs are completed in a timely fashion, under the direction of the Maintenance Manager. Maintenance activities must ensure that employee health and safety, product safety, and the protection of the environment are never compromised, and that all maintenance activities enhance product quality, plant performance, and the business objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist work group in troubleshooting, operating, and maintaining production systems and facilities systems at times which include refrigeration equipment, boilers, fire systems, HVAC equipment, wastewater, compressed air equipment, vacuum pump system, high voltage switch gear, and all production equipment. Lead root cause and lean exercises helping to impact production uptime and quality.
  • Champion the site safety objectives through leadership and effective communications. Assist Site Leadership and Safety Management Representative in the implementation of any safety related projects, upgrades, or improvements. Ensure there exists within the maintenance team an attitude of absolute intolerance for unsafe situations.
  • Assist work group to implement and monitor an effective PM program and monitor the program on existing equipment and new equipment acquisitions. Ensure that work orders and work assignments are completed in a timely fashion by the maintenance department.
  • Oversee the operation and tracking of the parts room and maintain the required inventory of spare parts. Maintain a record of equipment repair costs.
  • Maintain good human relations skills, communication skills, and leadership qualities with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Direct, coordinate, and manage scheduled maintenance and machine changeovers in conjunction with scheduled production.
  • Assist group in developing and meeting training needs and develop overall programs to upgrade operating and maintenance skills and effectiveness.
  • Supervise contractors as assigned by Maintenance Manager.
  • Responsible to review and evaluate personnel concerning performance, safety, and training.
  • Follow all food safety requirements and GMPs
  • Manage asset management system (AMS)
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex systems/problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • BS in Engineering or management preferred, or 3-5 years equivalent experience as a supervisor or lead in a manufacturing environment. Strong technical and managerial skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of food processing plants and technology.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance technologies and operation of utilities.
  • Knowledge of food safety, regulatory requirements for food safety and hygienic engineering (OSH&R).
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of Asset and Maintenance Management (AMM) and Industrial Services and Energy Management (NEMT) a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex systems/problems.
  • Ability to report to work promptly and regularly, work under the supervision of others, at times under stressful conditions, work within deadlines, and be able to work professionally with others at all times and in all situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the ability to maneuver around an array of equipment. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders and/or stairs. Will have some exposure to fumes and airborne particles. Must be able to work in a cold environment.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop or kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The employee works in a causal office environment located at a manufacturing facility. When the employee is within the plant, personal protective equipment is required to be worn. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Protective Equipment: When in the plant, employees must wear personal protective equipment, as required, which may include an assigned work uniform, hair and beard net, safety glasses, designated shoes and ear protection.

Additional equipment may be required to follow all safety rules and procedures by working safely and ensuring the safety of others.
