West Direct Oil is looking for a full-time Director of Fleet Maintenance Manager for Colorado. The position involves complete oversight for our “For Hire” division of fleet repair as well as our own internal fleet.

The Director of Fleet Maintenance Manager will be a key stakeholder in developing a world-class fleet program at West Direct Oil. This person is responsible for ensuring the safety and DOT compliance of all company vehicles in the region, providing expertise on vehicle reliability, and maximizing the vehicle's life. This person will also assist with developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, and best practices. The position will work closely with the VP of Operations, Customer Fleet Managers, Finance Department and local managers for the internal fleet.

Essential Duties:

  • Serve as the safety, compliance, and maintenance expert and business Team Partner for the area of responsibility.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to provide in-person support and to ensure compliance to policies and State/Federal regulations (DOT, OSHA, ANSI, etc.).
  • Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documents required by the DOT, company, and any other Federal, State, or Local regulations.
  • Manage key metrics in your area: DOT Scores, PM Compliance, Financials, Warranty and Recalls, etc.
  • Evaluate and improve maintenance programs by auditing vehicles and visiting the local maintenance providers.
  • Consult on repair expenses (high dollar) and audit invoices for proper parts and labor costs.
  • Develop and provide training to the mechanic, service writer, and management on safety and maintenance best practices.
  • Directly support, mentor, and interact with internal Mechanic Technicians to ensure proper maintenance is being performed and technician training / certification is current.
  • Capability to offer innovative ideas, approaches, and solutions.
  • Evaluate risk mitigation and cost savings strategies.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that the work meets the manufacture's specifications and legislated regulations.
  • The ability to keep up with changing technology and updates.
  • Deals with authorized dealers, contractors, and vendors to secure diagnostic / repair equipment, parts and rental vehicles as needed.
  • Establishes a schedule for recommended replacement of fleet vehicles.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Supervisors Responsible:

  • Oversees or delegates responsibility for the day-to-day workflow of the department and staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
  • Reviews time and motion records of fleet employees to determine downtime for maintenance and repairs of vehicles.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of fleet management and operations.
  • Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prepare and adhere to a budget and to monitor and reduce expenses improve profitabilty.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Drafts and presents reports on department operations and expenses.
  • Prepares and implements departmental budget.
  • Provides budget recommendations for fleet operations.

Qualifications:

  • 4 years of fleet experience working with medium to heavy-duty gas or diesel vehicles.
  • 4 years of fleet managerial experience, managing multiple sites is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of DOT regulations.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be computer proficient with Microsoft office.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in related field required.
  • Five years of experience in fleet maintenance or repair with three years in a supervisory role are required.
