POSITION SUMMARY


The Pediatrician functions within the Pediatric clinic to provide direct primary patient care to the children of the Shingle Springs Rancheria as well as the surrounding El Dorado County community. The Pediatrician will work fairly independently but with supervision and direction from the Medical Director. The Pediatrician will supervise the Family Nurse Practitioner, RN Pediatric Clinic Manager, and the Behavioral Health Clinician for the Pediatric Clinic.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Supervises and directs professional staff including Family Nurse Practitioner/PA, RN Pediatric Clinic Manager, and the Behavioral Health Clinician for the Pediatric Clinic. Manages concerns relating to coverage, time off requests, productivity, customer service, and workload expectations.
  2. Performs patient examinations and assessments.
  3. Orders/performs necessary laboratory and diagnostic tests and proficiency testing.
  4. Prescribes and dispenses medications in compliance with established medical protocols.
  5. Provides child and newborn care and provides clinical case management support to staff providers.
  6. Interfaces with management to provide clinical input on the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  7. Meets with providers on an ongoing, regular basis to discuss concerns and opportunities for care improvements.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Must possess a valid medical license in the state of California with no pending or previous disciplinary action from any state licensing entity.
  2. Current Board Certification in Pediatrics is required.
  3. Current Unrestricted DEA license is required.
  4. Current CPR Certification, health care provider level is required.
  5. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Pediatric practice.
  6. Knowledge of state-of-the-art medical, scientific and treatment methods for pediatrics, and an awareness of medical, educational, and psychosocial intervention procedures is required.
  7. Strong organizational, written, and verbal skills.
  8. The ability to relate and communicate well with a diverse and underserved patient population is required.
  9. The ability to work within a team setting and with volunteers is essential.
  10. Post job offer: CPR/BLS certification, TB test, and annual flu shot (during flu season) are required as a condition of employment, unless a medical/religious accommodation request is provided. Hepatitis B Vaccine will be offered at no cost to employees, but it is not required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Current PALS certification.
  2. Bilingual (English/Spanish).


DRUG SCREEN


Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians requires the successful completion of a drug screening of all potential Tribal employees prior to being hired.  The Tribe recognizes that the State of California has legalized the use of marijuana. The Tribe is located on federally owned trust land and complies with federal laws. Therefore, marijuana use is prohibited, and all drug tests will include a screening for THC.

 

Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians recognizes a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, and employees will be required to sign a Consent to Drug and/or Alcohol Testing.  Employees may be selected for alcohol / drug testing upon reasonable suspicion, and upon any/all accidents.

Candidates for this position will be subject to criminal and character background checks and fingerprinting prior to being hired.  Verification of previous employment and education will also be conducted after the interview if an offer of employment is being considered.

NATIVE PREFERENCE


Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
