The Opportunity As part of Maple Leaf Food's Maintenance team, and reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the individual will be responsible for maintaining and servicing equipment used in the facility for the daily production of our products. Furthermore, they will ensure safe plant operations and a safe working environment for all employees. A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do:

Shifts are scheduled in two-week intervals, rotating day and night shift (approximately 40 hours per week) including paid breaks. Approximate work times, inclusive of unpaid 30-minute break, are:

  • 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday
  • 11:30 pm - 8:00 am, Sunday - Thursday
The wage for the Licensed Millwright/Mechanic position is $39.75/hour. Opportunity to work daily and weekend overtime is based on business needs and paid at escalated rates, according to the collective agreement. Scheduled Saturday overtime occurs approximately once per month and employees are expected to attend. 

A comprehensive benefits package is available to employees and their eligible dependents commencing at three months and six months for dental (company paid). 

Retention Bonus and Production Bonus' may apply to qualified employees. 
Maple Leaf Foods, Lethbridge Pork commits to the Health and Welfare of our team members, including offering a fitness allowance which commences after six months of employment.

Maple Leaf Foods, Lethbridge Pork supplies all necessary safety equipment at no cost to the employee and provides paid safety training.   What you will bring:
  • Red Seal Certification or Alberta trade certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset.
  • Must have a full complement of personal/professional hand tools.
  • Must be able to install, troubleshoot, repair, and complete preventative maintenance on complex production equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Operate production equipment and check performance as required.
  • Carry out oral/printed work requests and apply corrective action.
  • Perform regular Work Orders and account for inventory and labour on a computerized maintenance program.
  • Extensive mechanical knowledge including power transmission, pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Be able to read and understand mechanical drawings/schematics.
  • Machining, fabricating, and welding for equipment repairs and/or upgrades.
  • Understand and adhere to all plant Food/Health and Safety Polices.
  • Recommend, implement and enhance equipment performance and improvements.
  • Ensure all job-related operations are in compliance with GMPs, HACCP, WHMIS and health & safety requirements.
  • Strong sense of urgency, safety conscious, attention to detail, and basic computer ability coupled with strong communication skills.
  • Good mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work alone and in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of conveyors, industrial/stationary engines, pumps/compressors, grinders, welding equipment, electrical/electrical controls, lathes/machining tools, power tools, fans/blowers, hydraulic systems and high-speed packaging equipment an asset.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Volume & Complexity of Work: Priority maintenance with conflict/limited complexity, multiple deadlines completed through typical procedures.
