Location: CEDA Central at 567 W. Lake, Suite 1200 in Chicago, IL

Schedule: 8:30a – 5:00p; some nights and weekends as necessary; schedule subject to change based on program needs

Purpose: The Energy Efficiency Technician accurately compiles information (construction type, dimensions of building, spaces within the building, and types of building components) about residential structures for Energy Audits under the supervision of a certified Energy Auditor (until all required IHWAP and DOE certifications are successfully obtained and the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies are acquired). This position works responsibly to protect the health and safety of the client, the home, the contractors and CEDA staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify any and all Health and Safety concerns before, during, and after the implementation and completion of all Weatherization Projects
  • Assist in the evaluation of existing baseload, conduct indoor air quality tests, and perform complex building diagnostic testing protocols: combustion safety and efficiency tests, pressure diagnostics, HVAC distribution tests
  • Assist in the evaluation of test results and help determine the appropriate energy conservation measures and retro-fits allowable under the IHWAP regulations and guidelines
  • Assist a certified Energy Auditor with the following: perform whole house building analytics and diagnostics, accurately evaluate data and enter into the state’s energy modeling software
  • Analyze energy software results and design a scope of work based on software outcomes.
  • Accurately document maps, site plans, dimensions, test set-up and data to enter into energy modeling software.
  • Complete production paperwork including but not limited to: Mileage, time records, gas receipts, assessment documentation
  • Follow all necessary and mandated Health and safety compliance to protect the wellbeing of the clients.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must possess basic carpentry skills; on-the-job experience preferred
  • Must be certified by the State of Illinois or become certified within one year of employment
  • Knowledge Competencies: construction, architecture, electrical systems, mechanical systems, energy, and facilities, HVAC, OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ASHRAE, ADA, ERP and QA/QC IECC
  • Experience in a nonprofit, social service organization, or a Community Based Organization (CBO)
  • Experience working with various socioeconomic populations
  • Bilingual language abilities a plus but not required (English/Spanish)
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions required
  • Ability to provide valid driver’s license and car insurance for required travel throughout Cook County is required
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, SharePoint, Internet
