Position Summary: 
The Camper Support Specialist works to provide psychosocial care and preparation for campers and families attending Camp Korey programming. This individual works as part of the cabin life team working to provide an integrated camp experience. 


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Trainings such as 600-hour child life internship or WA State License to practice as Certified Behavioral Technician or equivalent experience. 
  • Summer camp experience. 
  • 21 years or older. 
  • Ensure all cabin life experience is delivered in line with the mission, vision, and values of Camp Korey. 
  • Have the physical and mental capability of caring for Camp Korey’s unique demographic of campers. 
  • Commit to the entire length of the summer June 12-August 23, 2024. 
  • Act in a professional manner as a role model for all campers, volunteers, and fellow staff. 
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and team building skills. 
  • Be fully aware of all safety and emergency procedures and execute procedures when needed. 
  • Integrate and support volunteers at camp and provide them with training and support as needed. 
  • Provide behavior support to campers, including regular and positive feedback, celebration, and awareness of camper's individual psychosocial needs. 
  • Previous experience or education in behavior support. 
  • Commitment to punctuality and a willingness to work within a flexible environment and work schedule. 
  • Act in a professional manner as a role model for all campers, volunteers and fellow staff. 
  • Must practice strong, positive collaboration, communication, and team building skills. 
  • Attend and participate in orientation trainings as requested. 
  • Maintain camper and colleague confidentiality at all times. 
  • Must practice COVID safety for the duration of the summer. 
  • Must pass a thorough background check. 
  • Must be free of any communicable illness and have current immunizations/vaccines including COVID. 
  • Current CPR/AED certification required or willingness to get certified. 

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES- Specific 

    • Call camper families regarding behavioral support. 
    • Support campers struggling with medical care provided by nursing staff. 
    • Work alongside the Cabin Life Coordinator to complete a psychosocial check-in for campers. 
    • Communicate with camper families regarding psychosocial concerns. 
    • Create psychosocial preparation forms for campers who have been flagged for psychosocial concerns. 
    • Identify policy violation as needed and alert camp leadership as needed. 
    • Serve on crisis response team in the role of cabin life.  
    • Use experience to provide support for campers. 
    • Use experience to assist cabin counselors with psychosocial care during summer camp. 
    • Document through Campsite any significant psychosocial interactions with campers. 
    • Report any maltreatment or neglect of camp policies to Camp Leadership. 
    • Observe and evaluate seasonal staff in conjunction with the Camp Leadership. 
    • As part of the leadership team, provide feedback and intentional check-ins to seasonal staff. 
    • Work with Camp Directors and leadership team to create staff training and materials to train hired seasonal staff. 
    • Meet with the camp team weekly to discuss psychosocial needs of campers weekly. 
    • Responsible for knowing and adhering to policies and procedures in staff manual. 
    • Assist with programming and parents’ programs during Family Weeks. 
    • Provide additional behavior support for campers with higher psychosocial needs as a member of Camp Korey’s Behavioral Support Team. 
    • Check in with camper parents during arrival to identify any psychosocial and cabin life considerations for each camper. 
    • Identify additional areas for growth in Camp Korey’s cabin life experience in line with supporting our campers and their families. 
    • Assist with all emergency procedures. 
    • Provide ongoing feedback to cabin staff regarding camper behavior support. 
    • Provide behavioral support trainings for volunteers as requested. 
    • Be familiar with and adhere to the policies and procedures contained within the Camp Manual. 
    • Participate in ongoing feedback and development of camp safety procedures. 
    • Oversee the review of camper reports before each session. 
    • Develop and implement additional psychosocial considerations to support campers. 
    • Assist in review of camper’s psychosocial considerations. 
    • Provide additional coverage and supervision of cabin staff. 
    • Assist with site and program preparation, including cleaning/resetting camp spaces, decorating, creating a child-friendly environment, coordinating special guests, etc. 
    • Support all operational needs relevant to our population, their needs, abilities, and age. 
    • Support Camp Korey activities to ensure they are strengths-based and universally accessible.  
    • Support caregivers and provide opportunities for respite, growth, and support as requested. 
    • Actively participate in self-assessments, surveys, and evaluations throughout the summer. 
    • Instruct staff and help maintain the cleanliness and safety of camp, including the dining hall, activity spaces, cabins, and storage areas.  
    • Perform any other duties deemed necessary.
