POSITION SUMMARY
Provides direct patient support during the patient treatment experience by meeting with patients to discuss their out-of-pocket costs for their recommended treatment. Meetings include payment collection, determining and establishing payment plans and collaborating with fellow Ashley staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages daily schedule to support patient meetings for admission, insurance updates, and discharge.
- Provides education to patients regarding insurance benefits and out-of-pocket costs.
- Verifies all demographic and insurance information while making necessary changes to support clean claim submission.
- Collects estimated patient liability and provide patient financial counselor to include explanation of quoted benefits.
- Extends payment plan and/or scholarship options according to Ashley’s policies and procedures.
- Enters charges and adjustments on accounts, as necessary.
- Updates daily reports and systems to ensure clear documentation, including documentation within Electronic Medical Record and billing system.
- Attends interdepartmental team meetings as they relate to the patient census to ensure proper support.
- Monitors email and calls to allow response within 24 business hours.
- Completes monthly administrative tasks, as time allows.
- Models the utmost respect, dignity, compassion and privacy when meeting with patients and speaking with their families.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Minimum High school and at least 2 years working in managed care/patient accounts environment; typing and computer skills required; must have excellent telephone and communication skills; organizational skills; good business background and knowledge of managed care system; knowledge of Twelve Step Programs.
- Excellent verbal and written skills; read and write clearly.
- Good arithmetic skills; understand insurance and financial requirements.
- Ability to prepare financial reports. Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Glean information from patients and families in crisis; accurately interpret what needs to be done; able to de-escalate crisis situations; break down defense mechanisms characteristic of chemically dependent persons.
